Industry Relations Advisor
The ideal candidate is a professional, proactive, and engagement-driven individual who can work with minimal supervision and take initiative in building strong relationships with employers, community partners, students, and workforce stakeholders. They should be confident in conducting outreach, developing partnerships, supporting employer engagement initiatives, and representing Ohlone College in a positive and professional manner. This individual is comfortable going out into the community, identifying opportunities, developing jobs and workforce opportunities, building partnerships, independently moving projects, community engagement efforts, and workforce initiatives forward, and serving as a key support to department operations and initiatives. Strong presentation, facilitation, and communication skills are highly valued, including the ability to confidently lead conversations, presentations, orientations, workshops, employer meetings, and hiring events with a variety of audiences. The ideal candidate is highly organized, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong professionalism, maturity, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to coordinate events, logistics, county and grant compliance requirements, reporting, and other workforce initiatives with strong attention to detail and follow-through. They should be comfortable maintaining accurate data and documentation, supporting employers with job descriptions and job postings, tracking job placements and workforce outcomes, and supporting workforce performance goals related to enrollments, training funds, and program metrics. They should work effectively with a wide range of personalities, collaborate well with internal and external partners, communicate respectfully, and contribute positively to the team environment while remaining accountable and solution-oriented under pressure. Above all, they are committed to creating accessible, equitable, and impactful opportunities for students and the community while serving as a strong representative of the Tri-Cities Career Center and Ohlone College.
This position is funded by categorical funds and employment is subject to those funds being available.
Under the supervision of an administrator, the Industry Relations Advisor (IRA) conducts outreach to employers and businesses to provide support in developing jobs and internships for students, alumni, and community members. The IRA develops talent acquisition strategies, coordinates entrepreneurship and recruiting events, and establishes and maintains small business, corporate, government, and non-profit relationships. The IRA serves as a liaison by connecting students, alumni and community job seekers to jobs and internships while connecting businesses to advising and education opportunities to support business and entrepreneurship needs. It strives to connect employers and aspiring entrepreneurs to services and resources to help support the development, maintenance, and growth of employers and business organizations.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Conducts outreach (in-person and online), utilizing current marketing tools, including social media and mobile communications to identify and attract employers, aspiring entrepreneurs, businesses, students and alumni, and community job seekers;
- Cultivates new programming and strategies to support employer talent acquisition, business advising, and training;
- Supports the development of policies, procedures, and programs relevant to the position;
- Develops and implements employer and entrepreneur engagement activities throughout the year, including, but not limited to: employer and business orientations; employer tabling; individual business advising; information sessions; business education and training opportunities; career fairs; entrepreneurship seminars; drop-in interviewing; industry forums; guest speaker engagements; job shadowing; marketing and branding opportunities;
- Establishes and maintains small business, corporate, non-profit, and government partnerships to facilitate education, workforce, and economic development;
- Promotes institutional brand and awareness by increasing the presence of Ohlone College in the community through private and public engagement that includes memberships in trade organizations and related affiliations, chamber of commerce events, community gatherings, public speaking opportunities, etc.;
- Prepares and maintains a variety of qualitative and quantitative reporting related to grants, contracts, and special projects;
- Provides, develops and implements business consultations, workshops, small business talent acquisition events for job creation and retention;
- Provides training for small businesses in job description writing and job posting;
- Reviews economic development reports, labor market trends, and regional surveys to stay current with local, state-wide, and national workforce and economic trends;
- Creates and conveys demographics about students, alumni, and community job seekers and the business/employer community;
- Evaluates and approves employers and their job postings in the Ohlone College Career Center database; updates the Career Center website and social media accounts and ensures employers, students, alumni, and community members comply with Career Services Guidelines;
- Demonstrates sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of the College's students, faculty, staff and community.
- Effectively engage and support historically disproportionately impacted groups by addressing issues of equity and improving culturally responsive service-oriented practices.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of hiring practices, including sourcing, recruiting, resume reviewing, and interviewing skills; networking, marketing, and business development; local business and sector trends and industries; education, workforce, and economic development resources; applicable employment laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Skill to operate a computer and assigned office equipment; use and manage Customer Relations Management (CRM) software and Career Services Management (CSM) software; develop workshop curriculum and plan events; interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; provide business consultations and workshops.
Ability to conduct outreach to community members and organizations; work independently with little direction; maintain data, records and files; prioritize tasks and efficiently complete them; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
Minimum qualifications: any combination equivalent to a Bachelor's degree business or similar discipline and two (2) years of increasingly responsible and experience related to the field of career/job development. AND must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.
Physical characteristics: this position requires physical abilities needed to work in a standard office setting, including but not limited to: standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods; occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and twisting; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling light and moderate amounts of weight; operating office equipment which may require repeated fine motor skills (e.g.: keyboard use); and the ability to communicate in written and verbal forms. The position requires vision and hearing in normal ranges (with or without correction) sufficient to operate any assigned equipment and the ability to clearly communicate with others in written and verbal forms.

Salary placement initial salary placement will be $64,128 – $70,728 annually and is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Classified employees advance one step on the salary schedule each year and have the potential to reach the current maximum step of $81,888 annually.
Foreign transcripts: transcripts issued outside the United States require a course-by-course analysis with an equivalency statement from a certified transcript evaluation service verifying the degree equivalency to that of an accredited institution within the USA. This report must be attached with the application and submitted by the filing deadline.
