Responsibilities

– Perform blood draws and specimen collection while ensuring patient comfort and safety – Label specimens accurately and ensure proper storage and handling according to protocols – Explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients to reduce anxiety and ensure cooperation – Use straight and butterfly needles to collect blood samples with precise technique – Match laboratory requisitions with specimen samples, including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required – Verify all test requisitions and labels against orders for 100% accuracy – Package and transport specimens while maintaining sample integrity and following transport protocols – Store specimens at appropriate temperatures following protocol to ensure sample quality – Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations, including wearing PPE and following safety procedures – Attend annual departmental training and stay updated on best practices – Answer inquiries regarding laboratory results and assist with administrative tasks as needed – Perform other related duties to support laboratory operations

Required Skills

– Experience performing blood draws and specimen collection – Ability to properly label, centrifuge, and handle specimens – Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and specimen processing – Excellent communication skills for explaining procedures and interacting with patients – Knowledge of specimen storage and transport procedures – Ability to follow safety protocols and regulatory requirements

Additional Skills & Requirements

– Preferably bilingual in English and Spanish – Previous phlebotomy certification or training is highly desirable – Experience working in a clinical laboratory or healthcare setting – Schedule includes Monday through Friday from 12:30 pm to 6:00 pm and every other Saturday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm – High school diploma or equivalent required; formal phlebotomy training preferred
