About Us:

It started with cold, creamy Root Beer on a hot day, and the rest, as they say, is history. A&W has a long history in this country, beginning with the first A&W Root Beer stand in 1919. Chain founder Roy Allen handed out his first handmade soda during a parade in Lodi, CA, to welcome home returning WWI vets. A century later, we have more than 625 restaurants from coast to coast (including a couple in Alaska), and we're still deeply connected to the small-town communities that have supported us all these years. We are THE All-American franchise. Everyone has an A&W memory: first dates, high school sweethearts, or just that perfect burger. We're a classic, American brand hitting our 100-year mark, yet we continue to grow and change with the times. The A&W brand speaks to both younger and older generations through our "hip nostalgia" positioning. In 2011 A&W Restaurants, Inc. was purchased by a group of domestic and international Franchise Partners in order to protect & grow the brand, and we're committed to its success for the next 100 years.
