Mental Health Skill Building Counselor

The Aria Group Mental Health Services, LLC is seeking compassionate, motivated, and dependable Mental Health Skill Building (MHSS) Counselors to join our growing team. This position provides community-based mental health services to adults with serious mental illness, helping them develop the skills necessary to live independently and improve their overall quality of life.

As a Mental Health Skill Building Counselor, you will work one-on-one with clients in their homes and throughout the community to teach daily living skills, promote recovery, and connect individuals with community resources. Responsibilities

• Provide Mental Health Skill Building services in clients' homes and community settings.
• Assist clients in developing and maintaining independent living skills, including:
  • Personal hygiene and self-care
  • Medication management and appointment compliance
  • Budgeting and money management
  • Meal planning and preparation
  • Household organization and cleaning
  • Time management and daily routines
  • Community integration and accessing local resources
• Implement individualized service plans and monitor client progress toward treatment goals.
• Teach and reinforce healthy coping skills, communication techniques, problem-solving, and emotional regulation.
• Coordinate care with psychiatrists, therapists, case managers, primary care providers, family members, and other community partners.
• Complete documentation, progress notes, and required assessments accurately and within agency timelines.
• Maintain compliance with Virginia Medicaid, DBHDS, and agency policies and procedures.
• Participate in supervision, staff meetings, and ongoing training opportunities.
• Respond professionally and appropriately to crisis situations while following agency protocols.

Qualifications

Required:

• Registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) or QMHP-Trainee (QMHP-T) .
• Bachelor's degree in Human Services or a related field.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance.
• Ability to pass all required background screenings.
• Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
• Basic computer proficiency and ability to complete electronic documentation.

Preferred:

• Experience providing community-based behavioral health services.
• Experience working with adults experiencing serious mental illness.
• Knowledge of person-centered planning, crisis intervention, and recovery-oriented care.
