Installation & Field Service Technician

Ascendo Resources is representing a growing client in the water purification, sanitation, and disinfection industry seeking an Installation & Field Service Technician to join their team. This is a hands-on, field-based role ideal for someone with strong mechanical, electrical, and plumbing experience who enjoys troubleshooting, traveling to customer sites, and being the face of the company during installations and service calls.

The Installation & Field Service Technician will be responsible for installing, commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting industrial equipment at customer locations. This person will support the full lifecycle of each project, from pre-installation checks and system startup to operator training, preventive maintenance, and ongoing technical support.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform on-site equipment installations, including mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, plumbing connections, and system setup according to drawings, schematics, P&IDs, and manufacturer specifications.
• Lead system startup and commissioning by verifying utilities, conducting I/O checks, calibrations, functional testing, safety checks, and customer sign-offs.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and equipment performance issues to minimize downtime and ensure reliable system operation.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, component replacements, system updates, and service documentation in alignment with scheduled requirements.
• Train end users on equipment operation, routine maintenance, safety procedures, and best practices.
• Communicate clearly with customers regarding root cause findings, corrective actions, project timelines, and next steps.
• Collaborate with internal teams including operations, engineering, chemistry, sales, and project management to improve field service processes and customer outcomes.
• Maintain accurate service reports, parts usage, work orders, timesheets, expense logs, and customer documentation.
• Support remote technical support calls via phone or video when needed.
• Follow all safety procedures, including PPE, lockout/tagout, electrical codes, OSHA guidelines, and company policies.
• Prepare installation kits, tools, and parts while assisting with equipment shipping, crating, and returns as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 3+ years of experience in field service, industrial maintenance, equipment installation, or a related hands-on technical role.
• Strong working knowledge of electrical systems, including 120/240/480VAC, DC wiring, panels, and controls.
• Hands-on plumbing and mechanical assembly experience, including pumps, valves, sensors, fittings, controllers, motors, VFDs, PVC/CPVC, PEX, stainless piping, and related components.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, layout drawings, and technical manuals.
• Experience using multimeters, flow/pressure gauges, digital testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
• Prior experience commissioning equipment and performing preventive/corrective maintenance.
• Strong customer service, communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed, sometimes with short notice.
• Must live within driving distance of an international airport.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to maintain a home office with reliable internet access.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with industrial water treatment, chemical generation systems, process equipment, or municipal/EPA water systems.
• Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, instrumentation, flow, pressure, conductivity, and basic controls troubleshooting.
• OSHA safety knowledge and/or LOTO training.
• CMMS or CRM experience.
• General Contractor’s License is a plus.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Physical & Travel Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 100 lbs.
• Comfortable standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, squatting, reaching, crawling, and working in industrial environments.
• Comfortable working around chemicals and water systems while using proper PPE.
• Work may take place indoors or outdoors, and noise levels may be loud at times.
• Travel will vary based on project and customer needs.
• Overtime, weekend work, and on-call support may be required.
