Associate Vice Chancellor, Financial Planning & Analysis

Candidates will be required to deliver a presentation in an open forum as part of the final interview stage. The full salary range for the Associate Vice Chancellor for Financial Planning & Analysis is $187,500 - $385,100. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $315,000 annually. The Associate Vice Chancellor for Financial Planning & Analysis (AVC, FP&A) serves as a senior finance leader responsible for leading the University’s comprehensive financial strategy by designing, implementing, and continually refining enterprise-wide financial planning processes, governance, methodologies, and analytical capabilities that support informed decision-making across all areas of the institution. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor Finance & Administration and Chief Financial Officer (VCFA & CFO), the AVC serves as a trusted strategic advisor to the Chancellor, Provost, and VCFA & CFO, and provides leadership in institutional financial strategy, multi-year financial planning, budget development, forecasting, financial performance management, capital and cash planning, and executive decision support. The position leads the development and continuous refinement of the University’s integrated resource allocation and budget model, balancing academic priorities, enrollment, research, administrative operations, capital investment, and long-term financial sustainability through sophisticated financial modeling and scenario analysis. This leader will be responsible for strengthening institutional financial transparency, enhancing executive-level financial communications, improving forecasting and reporting capabilities, and building organizational capacity across the FP&A function. The AVC builds and leads a high-performing FP&A unit that serves as a strategic business partner to executive leadership, academic leadership, central finance, and administrative units to support sustainable financial planning, strategic resource allocation, operational effectiveness, resource utilization, and long-term institutional priorities. This role requires a highly collaborative leader with demonstrated success and a forward-thinking leader with exceptional executive communication skills, organizational leadership capabilities, expert analytics and modeling acumen, and the ability to translate complex financial information into actionable institutional strategy. Experience at a leadership level with responsibility for financial planning and analysis. Expert and broad knowledge of full range of financial policies, practices and systems. Budgeting and reporting techniques; fund accounting; human resource planning; accounting and bookkeeping. Expert ability to effectively communicate complex findings and recommendations verbally and in writing. Expert interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels; ability to interact with a diverse population. Client services oriented; good listening, critical thinking and analytical skills. Ability to multi-task. Expertise in internal control practices. Experience in implementing controls that strengthen the control environment throughout the organization. Demonstrated experience developing, leading, and monitoring complex operating budgets for a large organization, preferably in higher education, government, healthcare, or another multifaceted public-sector environment. Experience leading cross-functional initiatives, managing competing priorities, and implementing process improvements in a complex organizational environment. Experience with multi-fund budgeting (state appropriations, tuition, auxiliaries, grants, capital projects, etc.) and with enterprise financial systems, data analytics, and business intelligence tools. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships across organizational units. Expert skills in strategy development, systems planning, and change management, and ability to work effectively and sometimes persuasively with all levels within the organization. Experience conducting financial analysis, forecasting, modeling, and scenario planning to support executive decision-making and strategic resource allocation. Advanced knowledge of budget development processes, financial management principles, internal controls, and fiscal accountability practices. Experience presenting financial information and recommendations to executive leadership, governing boards, senior administrators, or other key stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to interpret financial data and translate complex analyses into clear, actionable information for diverse audiences. Expert modeling and analytical skills. Expert knowledge of complex financial policies, practices and systems; budgeting and reporting techniques; fund accounting; human resource planning; accounting and bookkeeping. Preferred Qualifications Experience within a large, decentralized public higher education system.
