Grants Manager

Organizational Overview: Good Works Grant Writing helps nonprofit organizations maximize their foundation, corporate and government grant funding. We assist nonprofit organizations in growing their revenues by customizing our comprehensive grants management system to their needs. Services we provide include grant and progress report writing, comprehensive prospect research, and grant program planning. Job Duties: Manage multiple client accounts, which includes meeting with the client to determine fundraising needs and viable prospects, maintaining proposal submission calendar, and serving as the clients’ point person at Good Works Grant Writing Develop compelling copy for grant proposals, letters of intent and progress reports of varying lengths/detail Draft compelling copy for various other projects, including website copy, annual reports, etc., as needed Supervise work of Grants Specialists who assist in writing copy for clients, including editing their work and providing feedback to them to improve their writing Provide input on various aspects of clients' programs, including program design, evaluation methods, etc., as needed Conduct prospect research in conjunction with Grant Specialists for clients Conduct research of peer-reviewed research and official data to develop accurate and compelling needs' statements for clients' various programs Commit to being available a minimum of 8 hours a week for meetings with clients and Good Works Grant Writing staff members as needed Attend monthly staff meeting Other duties as assigned Desired Skills and Qualifications: Strong writing, research, communication, and time management skills Detail-oriented Ability to work independently and to consistently meet deadlines Proficient at Microsoft Word and Excel Past experience managing employees Five or more years’ experience working at or with nonprofit organizations Three or more years of grant writing experience Core Competencies: Ability to Understand and Match the Needs and Impact of a Nonprofit Client with a Prospective Funder Grant Managers excel when they have a good understanding of the nonprofit clients’ programmatic, general operating, and capital funding needs and when they are able to effectively tell that nonprofits story in a way that aligns with funder interests and priorities. Knowledge of Arizona Philanthropic Landscape Grant Managers are responsible for advising nonprofit clients on funding prospects and the application process. A strong knowledge of Arizona funders (who they are, how they operate, what their priorities are) and experience working with or applying to local funders is key to offering our clients good counsel. Relationship Building/People Skills/Customer Service Orientation Grant Managers work directly with clients. They are most successful in these relationships when they develop a good rapport with their contacts, are responsive to their needs, work to understand where they are coming from, and resolve any issues that arise in a timely, diplomatic manner. Staff Management Grant Managers oversee Grant Specialists and are key to supporting and developing these staff members. They are responsible for supervising, coaching/mentoring, motivating and delegating to the Grant Specialists. Clear and timely communication of assignments and expectations, support in tasks, and timely feedback that helps in their growth are important to these relationships. Time Management Skills/Ability to Prioritize and Multi-Task Grant writing is driven by deadlines and the Good Works Grant Writing culture allows complete independence and responsibility for managing one’s time. To be successful, Grant Managers must be able to balance multiple assignments at various stages of completion, plan ahead when possible, and adjust priorities to meet time sensitive deadlines.
