About the Position

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a 56-bed PCU/Telemetry unit for adult patients with diagnoses including CHF, DKA, sepsis, COPD, arrhythmias, GI bleed, pulmonary emboli, respiratory failure, and related complex conditions
• Perform cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV starts, blood product administration, and management of vasoactive and insulin drips including heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, and Levophed
• Manage drains, tubes, indwelling and straight catheters, chest tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, and CIWA protocols
• Document accurately and efficiently using Epic EMR; operate Alaris and Omnicell systems
• Float as needed to adult inpatient units including Med/Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, Observation, and ICU based on experience and scope of practice
• Attend required pre-shift huddles and maintain monthly audit compliance for Pre/Post Pain Scoring at or above 90%

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license; South Dakota Board of Nursing licensure required
• Minimum 1 year of PCU or Telemetry RN experience; candidates with less than 1.5 years of experience may require additional review
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, vasoactive drip titration, and management of complex medical-surgical patients
• Must reside at least 100 miles from any facility location to be eligible
• Previous permanent staff at this facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler

• Experience with Epic EMR strongly preferred; candidates without Epic experience may require additional approval
• 2 or more years of RN experience preferred, particularly for first-time travelers
• Comfort working in a team nursing model alongside LPN colleagues with task-sharing within scope of practice
• Prior experience with esmolol or other beta-blocker/antihypertensive drip management

• Robust unit support structure including 24/7 charge nurses, hospitalists, respiratory therapy, centralized telemetry monitoring, phlebotomy, and a violent incident response team
• Free on-site parking available; structured orientation includes classroom/online education and precepted 12-hour shifts to support a smooth transition
