Field Engineer, Public Sector

As a Field Engineer on our federal AI projects, you'll work directly with our largest public sector customers to make sure their experience with Scale's technology is smooth and successful. You'll help these customers build production-grade data pipelines, working closely with our Product, Engineering, and Operations teams. This means learning each customer's use cases in depth and building the tools and documentation they need to grow.The role sits at the intersection of customer delivery, product, and engineering. The ideal candidate is a generalist software engineer who enjoys working with clients, takes ambiguous problems and turns them into practical solutions, and collaborates closely with Product and Engineering along the way.An active TS/SCI clearance is required.What You'll DoBuild end-to-end data integrations that sync customer data to and from Scale's platformWork with customers' engineering teams to optimize data pipelines, including input on API endpoint design and input/output schemasDesign and maintain playbooks, internal tools, documentation, and SDKs that set customers up for long-term successPartner with engineers and Operations to resolve technical blockers, debug delivery issues, and own technical escalations from customersOwn the customer's technical experience throughout their time with ScaleWork with Account Executives and Product Managers to identify customer-specific feature requestsDevelop expertise in large language models, 2D image annotation, and API integrationsRepresent Scale and engage with customers at major eventsWhat We're Looking ForExperience as a customer-facing engineer or in a similar hybrid roleHands-on technical experience working with clients in a pre- or post-sales capacityDevelopment experience with Python, JavaScript, or other modern languagesA strong engineering background, ideally in computer science, mathematics, or another quantitative fieldStrong project management and interpersonal skillsThe ability to present credibly to both executives and front-line engineersComfort communicating across internal and external teamsIntellectual curiosity, empathy, and the ability to move quicklyNice to HaveExperience in AIExperience working in classified environmentsPrior experience as a technical go-to-market resourceUnderstanding of DevSecOps principles, including secure software delivery, infrastructure as code, and CI/CDHands-on experience with Kubernetes and Helm chartsExperience automating infrastructure with Ansible or similar toolsCompensation packages at Scale for eligible roles include base salary, equity, and benefits. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position and may be inclusive of several career levels at Scale; it will be determined during the interview process based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, interview performance, and relevant education or training. Scale employees in eligible roles are also granted equity based compensation, subject to Board of Director approval.
