OverviewMasTec Skillbridge Program OverviewDOD SkillBridge Internships are an opportunity for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through an individual internship during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. The DOD SkillBridge Program is open to all ranks and experience levels. Participants are not eligible for compensation while in the program, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members in a permissive TDY status.During this program, the service member will gain industry and organizational knowledge through daily business interactions and job assignments. Work is performed under direct supervision. Our DOD SkillBridge Internship is open for all active-duty service members within the last 180 days of their service contract with commanding officer approval. The service member will receive on-the-job training and support a work schedule equivalent to 40 hours per week.This is an unpaid, non-benefit eligible internship position in partnership with the DOW SkillBridge program.Position Summary Field Engineer I, II or III will participate in inspecting and monitoring construction activities to ensure completion per the plans and adheres to all specifications and codes required. This position will notify project management of significant issues and complete documentation to attest to satisfactory completion of inspection or test activities per project specifications. With over 35,000 employees and 400 offices nationwide, we provide flexibility and career growth in dynamic work environments.ResponsibilitiesSafetyPromote and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures.Perform basic to moderate surveying and necessary measuring to check line, grade and dimensions of roadway, and structural elements.Prevent deficiencies through preconstruction quality control inspectionDetect deficiencies and addressed deficiencies in a timely and effective manner.Compliance Inspect and ensure the quality of work performed during the daily activities of the overall construction on a large-scale wind and/or solar project. May include but not limited to; roads, environmental (SWPPP), excavations, concrete, rebar, substations, transmission lines, underground utilities, wind turbine installation and solar system installation.Review tests and inspection reports to ensure that all required tests are completed and communicate all failing tests and/or inspections to the Field Quality Manager to assess.Ensure all materials associated with installation are in accordance with approved submittals, purchase order, and product data to ensure compliance with job site specifications.Monitor and record all work scope being executed and prepare a comprehensive Daily Report with measurement of daily quantities completed and resources utilized.Work closely with the Field Quality Manager and site management as the field representative ensuring construction complies with the QA/QC requirements, scope, and Standard Operating Procedures.Assist Logistic Management to ensure that the receiving process, inventory process and Standard Operation Procedure is complied with when materials arrive to site: inspection, offload, receiving, and storage.Inspect work and subsequently establish and manage punch lists for work completed in the field for the assigned discipline(s) to support the quality control process.Utilize construction management software for quality inspections, maintaining quality control documentation, data collection, and inputs.PlanningDetermine that construction work is in conformance with the design documents.Plan and conduct daily activities in a highly organized manner to ensure all QC and QA data are properly and accurately recorded.Interface with construction managers to maintain an open line of communication, report job progress, schedules, subcontractor performance and coordinate the operation of the field through management of field personnel.Assist in compiling all necessary information to create operations and maintenance manual(s)/file(s).Assist in managing and maintain production and extra work authorization log, identifying items and their resolutions.May aid in preparing and distributing daily project updates to necessary parties (POD).May aid in the daily validation process of calibrated tooling and capable of determining calibration status of measuring and test equipment.May assist or participate in phase gate preparations or presentations.Assist the Field Quality Manager with the benchmarking process and job book development and turnover.TrainingCoordinate, assist and present support in safety and policies and client requirements.Topics may include assisting, identifying, planning, shadowing, monitoring, compiling, management and preparing reports and documentation and data collection per project requirement.QualificationsDoD Skillbridge EligibilityHas served at least 180 days on active duty.Is within 12 months of separation or retirement.Will receive an honorable discharge.Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS.Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship.Meets DoD SkillBridge Qualifications as per DODI 1322.29.Work Experience and EducationPrior experience related to the position.Associates or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil, Mechanical Engineering or related degree or experience in related construction field is a plus.Prior experience or knowledge related to construction, power delivery, or heavy civil is helpful but not required.Must be capable of completing and passing the local or state certified SWPPP inspector program and have working knowledge of SWPPP project management plan.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesProficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Word, Excel).Gain a deep understanding of construction safety protocols and compliance, with a track record of working safely and applying safety methods.Advanced oral, written, and communication skills and work well with diverse groups of people.Work Environment & Physical RequirementsJobsites work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautionsThis work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noisesBe comfortable with physical work that requires climbing stairs and ladders frequentlyIf you have experience in any of the below job codes, this may be a good match for you!MOS: 12A, 12B, 12W, 92Y, 92A, 92Y, 88N, 12T, 125D, 91DAFSC: 3E5X1, 3E2X1, 3E3X1, 32EX, 3E6X1Position may be subject to pre-employment screening, which may include background check and drug testing.
