Sr. Utilities Technician - Waste Water

Job Description The Utilities Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of plant equipment that supports utilities—including high‑pressure steam boilers, chillers, heating/cooling air handling units, process wastewater treatment systems, water purification systems, tank mixers, air compressors and dryers, and chilled water distribution systems—under minimum supervision of the utilities supervisor in a rotation shift environment. The role performs preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on plant utilities equipment following standard operating procedures (SOPs), completing work orders, logs, and forms in accordance with cGMP documentation practices and quality standards in a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. Responsibilities Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance of all associated equipment. Operate and maintain various equipment through routine inspection and review. Complete all work in accordance with cGMPs, SOPs, job plans, and company policies. Read, understand, and follow related SOPs and job/work plans. Ensure that forms and work order documentation are completed with accurate information. Respond to calls and conduct repairs throughout the facility; escort contractors when required. Provide support for the start‑up of new equipment to ensure it meets all mechanical design specifications. Develop proficiency in three or more advanced maintenance technologies (e.g., alignment, balancing, thermography, oil analysis, ultrasound, vibration monitoring) and apply them to improve equipment reliability. Follow safety rules and ensure compliance with GA state and federal EPA regulations and laws. Collect and analyze daily WWTP data as per procedure; perform chemical/parameter adjustments to maintain system compliance. Perform disposal of hazardous waste. Respond to urgent and emergency work orders for the utilities department as needed. Close assigned work orders in the CMMS (JDE, Maximo, SAP). Attend required instructor‑led training and planned team meetings. Demonstrate continuous progress in job knowledge and technical proficiency. Order and maintain chemical inventory. Keeps designated area 5S‑ed (Safety, Sort, Shine, Standardize, Sustain). Teach basic activities and work execution to other technicians. Maintain a positive, professional, and customer‑oriented attitude; communicate concerns about safe work practices or misconduct directly to supervisors or management. Work with less experienced utilities or maintenance technicians under general instruction. Interact mainly with Plant Engineering Department personnel; moderate interaction with other departments. May perform other duties as assigned. Provide a limited level of troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of building systems, equipment, and components. Operate general laboratory equipment to assess the analytical status of the utilities process. Qualifications High school diploma or GED plus 8+ years of industrial related experience (pharmaceutical, utilities, or WWTP experience preferred). Two‑year certificate in HVAC, building trades, or building utilities program, or equivalent military experience preferred. 5–6 years of experience in the maintenance trades preferred. Ability to read and understand technical manuals and wiring schematics. Good customer service skills and ability to promote a teamwork environment. GA Industrial Wastewater Operator license or higher (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment). Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Reading and understanding procedures, schematics, and job blueprints. Familiarity with CMMS, SAP, JDE, or Maximo. Understanding of cGMPs and regulatory guidelines applicable to the medical/pharmaceutical industry. Excellent technical troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills; knowledge of utility systems including DAF, centrifuge, aeration basins, blowers, pumps, etc. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, SCADA, process control software, and other computer‑based applications. Considerations Work in a controlled environment requiring special gowning and protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet, and body, including additional hearing protection for loud areas. Remove all make‑up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish, and artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment. Work in cold, wet conditions. Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours as necessary. Possible exposure to sunlight, heat, dust, gases, and fumes. Required to stand and walk frequently while evaluating utilities equipment. Possible exposure to moving equipment and machinery. Potential to climb up and into large tanks for inspection. Must be able to work 12‑hour shifts and rotate (2/2/3) with assigned shifts. Overtime may be required at times. Required to lift up to 50 pounds when handling chemicals.
