About the Position: This position is with Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Directorate of Medicine Department of Medicine Neurology Service in Honolulu, Hawaii.
This is an open continuous announcement. We accept applications on an ongoing basis; qualified applicants will be considered as vacancies become available.

Duties
- Serve as a physician specialized in neurological practice in the Neurology Clinic and as Neurology consultant to the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
- Responsible for the examination, diagnosis and treatment of the full range of outpatients seen in various clinics.
- Provide evaluation and management of a wide range of neurologic disorders and diseases with a focus on return to military duty.
- Examine patients, order and evaluate the full range of tests to include electrophysiology, radiological and laboratory tests, makes diagnosis and prescribes appropriate treatments to include drugs, or behavioral modalities.
- Provide prescription renewal, telephone and e-mail consultative services.
- Communicate with patients, referring physicians and back to the appropriate primary care manager for management of disorders outside the specialty of Neurology.
- Provide recommendations or definitive evaluation for neurology problems in the referral region through phone consultation, telemedicine, and authorization and evaluation of air evacuation patients as appropriate.
- Evaluate and treat patients with multiple complicated problems who were screened and referred by the Emergency Department for urgent or emergent neurologic issues.
- Oversee other health care providers (nurse practitioners, physician assistants, medical students, interns, residents, and fellows).
- Provide chart review for quality assurance purposes in the area of neurology on an occasional basis.
- Board certification in the specialty of the position to be filled (Neurology) is preferred.
Conditions of Employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre‑employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre‑existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series unless exempt IAW Army Regulation 40‑562, Chapters 3 and 4.
- Must obtain and maintain current Advanced Life Support (ALS) training and certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network.
- This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as on‑call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays. On call coverage will be from 0730‑1630 with last scheduled appointment will at 1330.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Physician (Neurology):
Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed pre‑medical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts or proof of foreign equivalency with your application package.)
Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one‑year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Residency, Experience, and Training: Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Neurology) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified.
If you are selected for a Physician position: A salary quote will not be provided to you at the time of the initial job offer. The salary determination process begins after the initial job offer is accepted. This consists of the Activity Compensation Panel adding base pay and market pay to determine your starting salary and this will be provided to you once approved. Salary for physician positions is based on a tier scale, determined by the position specialty, grade, and location.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Education above high school level completed in a college, university, or other educational institution must be accredited by one of the accrediting agencies or associations recognized by the Secretary, U.S. Department of Education.
