Principal Scientist - Genomic and Translational Neuroscience

The Principal Scientist develops research strategies and focuses on the development of new technologies, methods and strategies in partnership with Principal Investigators. Also, manages large scale projects and is reserved for a high-level contributor. Provides high level of scientific/clinical research expertise. Designs and conducts high quality scientific or clinical research. Provides direction for research projects in his/her specific expertise area under the direction of the Principal Investigator and provides mentorship to more junior scientists.

Job Responsibilities:

• Develops research strategies and focuses on the development of new technologies, methods and strategies in partnership with Principal Investigators. Manages large scale, multidisciplinary projects and provides direction in specific area of expertise. Builds research collaborations.
• Designs and conducts high quality scientific or clinical research. Analyzes emerging trends in scientific and technical advances and incorporates into current laboratory research. Generates new scientific concepts and procedures.
• Oversees the management of research data, data analysis and interpretation of results/findings for laboratory projects. Oversees the translation of research discoveries into meaningful changes in scientific and clinical practices.
• Publishes as first author or co-author for multi-laboratory or multi-institutional research projects or in high-impact interdisciplinary journals. May participate in the manuscript peer review process as a member of an editor board. Serves as an invited speaker at external meeting and conferences.
• Ensures laboratory programs operate efficiently
• Serves as mentor and provides coaching to junior level staff.
• Performs other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals of the department and institution
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance

Minimum Education and/or Training:

• Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific area is required

Minimum Experience:

• Fifteen (15) years of relevant work experience is required
• Thirteen (13) years of relevant work experience is required with a Master's degree
• Ten (10) years or relevant work experience is required with a PhD

Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $138,320 - $262,080 per year for the role of Principal Scientist - Genomic and Translational Neuroscience.
