School Safety Readiness Specialist Location: San Marcos, TX Position Overview The Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) is an official university-level research center at Texas State University tasked with school safety initiatives. The School Safety Readiness Specialist will assist in statewide review, verification, and follow‑up of multi‑hazard emergency operations plans and safety and security audits for all K‑12 districts, charter school districts, and community colleges in Texas to ensure compliance with state school safety legislation. The role also supports ongoing research and development of best practices related to school emergency operation plans, including development of EOP online training, toolkits, and resources. Job Duties Conduct comprehensive reviews and verification of emergency operations plans for independent school districts, charter school districts, and public community colleges as required by Texas Education Code. Integrate the latest best practices in school safety and emergency operations planning into all systems developed by the TxSSC. Collaborate with a team of specialists and training divisions to develop training and resources that help school districts meet compliance measures. Deliver virtual and in‑person training to school districts within assigned regional Education Service Center, facilitating sessions ranging from 15 to 150 participants and providing one‑on‑one support. Travel to districts as needed, with expected travel of 20‑30 days per fiscal year. Perform other duties as assigned to support Center needs. Required Qualifications At least 3 years of experience in local, state, or federal compliance, auditing, emergency management, or emergency preparedness in a public education context. Experience facilitating trainings for adult audiences of varying levels of experience. Ability to successfully manage a large capacity caseload. Experience meeting organizational deadlines related to complex, time‑sensitive regulatory compliance. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, education administration, or a closely related field. Preferred Qualifications Completion of IS 100, 200, 235, 700, 800, 360, and 362 (within 6 months of hire). Experience developing and/or reviewing emergency operation plans in a public school setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). One or more certifications such as IAEM CEM, AEM, ASIS CPP, PSP, or PMI PMP.
