School Nurse (Public Health Nurse)

Public Health School Nurses New Hanover County’s Health Department seeks experienced nursing professionals for 10‑month positions providing skilled nursing services to students in County schools. Responsibilities include identifying and planning for students with acute or chronic health care needs; providing emergency care and medication administration; conducting screening, referral, and follow‑up; preventing and controlling communicable disease; offering health promotion and counseling; teaching health‑related classes; supporting strategies to improve the school health program; and maintaining school health records. Hours and Assignments Full‑time positions (Monday–Friday) offer three possible shifts: 7:00 am–3:30 pm, 7:30 am–4:00 pm, or 8:00 am–4:30 pm, with school locations subject to change. Part‑time positions may be available with different hours. Employees must be able to report for emergency work assignments during emergency situations. Compensation and Benefits Position is scheduled for 10 months per year with full‑time (40 hours/week) staff working 1,760 hours per year. Salary range begins at $29.30 per hour plus a competitive benefits and retirement package. Salary is negotiable based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations. Public Health Nurses are exempt from FLSA overtime pay.
