Moving Specialist

Reporting to the Building Services Manager, the Moving Specialist is responsible for moving, hauling and storing various office items and equipment throughout the University, and will operate moving equipment such as trucks, forklifts, and hand operated tools. Disassembles and assembles furniture and/or equipment. Position may serve as a backup to the Moving & Hauling Lead Worker in their absence by assisting with estimating, scheduling and directing work of assigned staff or contract workers. This is a designated emergency personnel position and employee must report during emergency and inclement weather situations.

The incumbent also performs other duties as requested; takes initiative to support a healthy work environment; strives to fulfill the terms in the Standards of Conduct; exemplifies the Virginia Tech Principles of Community; and supports the university's motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).

Required Qualifications:

• Must have knowledge of moving and hauling practices.
• Must have valid drivers license with good driving record.
• Ability to operate large trucks (including commercial fork trucks), and other equipment used in moving. Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing 100 pounds or more; to maneuver materials up and down stairs; to climb and work from elevated work stations such as ladders and scaffolds; and to work for long periods of time standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling.
• Ability to communicate effectively, have good team work skills, and be able to understand, comprehend and follow directions in the workplace.
• Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
• May be required to work additional hours/shifts to meet the needs of the department.
• This is a designated emergency personnel position and employee must report during emergency and inclement weather situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience working with a moving company.
• Previous experience delivering and assembling furniture.
• Previous experience in a university or large commercial setting.

Pay Band: 2

Overtime Status: Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime

Salary Information: $38,000-$44,000
