Roaster Apprentice – Specialty Coffee

Job Description:

The Roaster Apprentice will work with the Roasting Team to ensure that coffee production needs are consistently met, both quality of roasts and quantity.  The ideal candidate is process-oriented, has a great love for coffee and pays great attention to detail. They work with the Roasting Team as a whole, consulted by our Director of Coffee.

Key Responsibilities

-  Retrieve and weigh green coffee prior to roasting in accordance with established recipes and all established SOPs.

- Input coffee data as part of the pre-roasting process.

- Perform high-volume coffee roasting on Loring coffee roasting system.   Learn to use other roasting machines, as needed.

- Receiving and putting away coffee orders with the assistance of the roast team

-   Daily maintenance program, including cleaning of equipment

- Occasional deep cleaning of all coffee roasting equipment, including coffee carts

- Adherence to Food Safety standards

- Daily warehouse duties including order fulfillment and coffee packaging

-  Will be cross trained and assist in other functional areas of production

Requirements and Skills

-  Ability to work under pressure

-  Ability to follow detailed procedures in a noisy environment with various distractions

-  Ability to withstand extreme warehouse temperatures

-  Fluent and able to read and write English

-  Team player, receptive to feedback

-  Basic computer skills

-  Understand basic math

-  Coffee experience preferred but not required. A love of coffee is a MUST!

-  Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

Physical Requirements

-  Able to reach, bend, balance, kneel, push pull, climb, scoop, carry, etc.

-  Ability to be active for 8+ hours without becoming fatigued

-  Standing 8+ hours a day

-  Frequent lifting of 40lbs

-  Occasional lifting of up to 150lbs, with the assistance of a team member
