Join us at Crowe and embark on a career where you can help shape the future of our industry.Job Description:Role SummaryCrowe’s Technology Advisory (ITA) practice is seeking a Manager, Data Engineer to lead data platform engagements for clients across a range of industries. This individual will serve as the primary technical and delivery lead for data engineering initiatives, combining hands-on development expertise with project management and client advisory responsibilities. The ideal candidate brings deep programming proficiency alongside practical experience with modern data platform vendors, and is equally comfortable writing production-grade code and presenting architectural recommendations to senior client stakeholders.Key ResponsibilitiesEngagement DeliveryLead end-to-end delivery of data engineering engagements, owning scope, quality, timeline, and client satisfactionConduct discovery workshops to assess current-state data architectures, integration patterns, and platform maturityAuthor and present statements of work, technical proposals, and executive-level deliverablesServe as the senior escalation point for architectural decisions and complex technical issues across active engagementsSolution Design & DevelopmentDesign and implement scalable data pipelines, ingestion frameworks, and transformation layers using both platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, and MuleSoft, as well asWrite, review, and optimize production code in Python, SQL, and/or Scala; enforce code quality standards and best practices across the engagement teamArchitect cloud environments and govern data modeling decisionsEvaluate and recommend vendor solutions aligned to client use cases, data volumes, and existing technology landscapeIntegrate structured and unstructured data sources, including APIs, event streams, and enterprise applicationsTeam & Stakeholder ManagementManage and mentor team members, providing technical guidance and career development supportCollaborate with client executive, data, analytics, and IT teams to align delivery priorities and ensure adoption of engineered solutionsCoordinate across workstreams (M&A, Integrations, Data Governance, Analytics, Cloud Infrastructure) to ensure cohesive platform deliveryPractice DevelopmentContribute to the development of reusable accelerators, delivery playbooks, and platform standards within the practiceSupport business development activities including RFP responses, capability demonstrations, and client presentationsStay current on emerging data engineering tools, frameworks, and vendor roadmaps; share knowledge across the practiceQualificationsEducation & CertificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field requiredMicrosoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate or Azure Data Engineer Associate preferredDatabricks Certified Data Engineer Associate or Professional a plusExperience5–8+ years of progressive experience in data engineering, data platform development, or technical consultingDemonstrated experience leading data platform builds, migrations, or integration programs in a client-facing or consulting environmentPrior experience managing or mentoring technical team membersPrivate Equity or Financial Services sector experience is a plusTechnical ProficienciesProgramming Languages:Strong proficiency in Python (required); SQL (required); Scala or Spark a plusData Platforms & Vendors:Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Real-Time Intelligence)Databricks (Delta Lake, MLflow, Unity Catalog, Spark)MuleSoft (Anypoint Platform, API-led connectivity, DataWeave)Cloud Platforms:Microsoft Azure (Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Synapse)AWS or GCP exposure a plusIntegration Patterns:REST APIs, event-driven architectures, ETL/ELT pipelines, message queues (Kafka, Event Hubs)Data Governance & Quality:Familiarity with data cataloging, lineage, and quality frameworks (Purview, Unity Catalog, or similar)Key CompetenciesStrong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving capabilitiesAble to translate complex technical concepts into clear business value for non-technical stakeholdersExecutive presence with experience engaging Director- and C-suite-level client contactsCollaborative leadership style with a track record of developing junior and offshore talentComfortable managing multiple concurrent engagements in a fast-paced professional services environmentDetail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skillsWork EnvironmentUS-based; remote with travel to client sites as needed (estimated 15–25%)We expect the candidate to uphold Crowe’s values of Care, Trust, Courage, and Stewardship. At Crowe, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
