Dentist - Chief of Dental

Summary Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and will remain on file through December 31, 2026. Eligible applicants will be referred each month as vacancies occur on an as‑needed basis until positions are filled. Responsibilities The Chief – Dental Service shall be knowledgeable of all disciplines of clinical dentistry and provide quality patient care in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. The Dentist Service Chief should possess expertise and competency to perform their specific scope of practice as defined through the medical center credentialing and privileging process. Administrative duties: maintain service compliance with VHA handbooks and directives, VISN policies, medical center memorandums, and service policies and procedures pertinent to dental clinic management. Respond to Congressional inquiries regarding issues germane to the Dental Service. Ensure compliance with accreditation standards (IG, Joint Commission) and other applicable survey/oversight entities. Comply with Safety and Environment of Care (EOC) standards and programs. Prepare an annual gap analysis to assess demand versus capacity. Project dental service workforce levels to meet current and future dental demand. Assess equipment and space needs for the dental service. Prepare the service annual budget and management briefing incorporating the gap analysis, workforce projections, contracts if applicable, and equipment/space needs. Collaborate with DSS to ensure appropriate labor mapping of all dental service staff. Manage overtime in compliance with facility policy. Manage the Dental Fee Base Program in compliance with applicable VHA and local policies. Utilize system redesign principles to promote organizational improvement, integrate quality metrics to monitor and improve performance, and optimize overall service efficiency and effectiveness. Provide quality patient care in collaboration with other health care professionals within approved scope of practice. Perform dental screenings, cleanings, X‑rays, and fillings. Provide specialty dental procedures such as root canals, restorations, and dentures. Prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases, injuries, and malformations of the teeth, jaws, oral cavity, and adjacent tissues. Perform routine exams and tooth cleaning. Perform restorative procedures, including fillings and crowns. Perform comprehensive surgical care, including extractions and oral cancer screening. Deliver routine and advanced prosthodontic care, including bridges, dentures, and dental implants. Provide routine and advanced periodontal care, including root canals and gum treatments. Perform oral and facial reconstruction surgery to repair damage from traumatic injury or serious illness. Other related duties as assigned. Benefits VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
