Director of Counseling and Psychological Services

the client seeks a strategic, student-centered leader to serve as Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). In this role, the director will provide both administrative and clinical leadership to shape and elevate comprehensive mental health services that support student success, persistence, and holistic wellbeing. The director will lead long-term strategy and vision for counseling and psychological services, using strategic planning, policy leadership, and continuous assessment to position CAPS as a central driver of student well-being and an essential strategic partner for university decision-making. the director will cultivate and lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary team by fostering professional growth, accountability, and shared purpose across clinical and administrative staff. Responsibilities include strategic oversight of a continuum of services, including counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, and outreach, to ensure timely, ethical, and culturally responsive care. The director is expected to remain clinically engaged through a limited counseling caseload so emerging needs and mental health trends can inform service delivery, program development, and strategic priorities, while also providing calm, visible leadership during acute student mental health crises with on-call availability by phone and, when necessary, in person. the director will steward CAPS resources through budget development, financial planning, and contract oversight to support long-term sustainability, innovation, and alignment with university priorities. Collaboration will be a key part of the role, with partnership across the university and the broader community as a trusted consultant and educator, supporting risk assessment and strengthening prevention and outreach efforts. The director will also advance assessment, transparency, and data-informed decision-making, and engage in ongoing professional development by staying current on emerging research, best practices, and evolving mental health trends affecting college-aged students.
