Health & Wellness Specialist

Schedule Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with one weekend shift required each month. Position Summary The Health & Wellness Specialist provides fitness equipment orientations, promotes YMCA health and wellness services, maintains and cleans equipment, and enforces recreation guidelines. Essential Functions Demonstrates proper equipment use and exercise form Monitors member activities on the fitness equipment, indoor track, gym floor and locker rooms. Maintains all areas in clean, presentable fashion Provides outstanding member service Gives tours to prospective members Handles member complaints Stays current with advances in the health and wellness field Sets up equipment for group exercise and various sports activities Enforces YMCA member guidelines Performs any other functions deemed necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Compensation $14.35 - $17.93 per hour; Part Time; Non Exempt (up to 25hrs/week) Benefits Free YMCA Individual Membership – Enjoy full access to facilities. Candidates must be either currently pursuing a health and wellness related degree, hold such a degree, and/or have an active Personal Training Certification. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. Ability to actively take part and lead fitness activities. Working knowledge of computers and experience with a variety of software applications. YMCA experience preferred. Certificates, Licences, Registration CPR, AED, Oxygen and First Aid Certification required within first 60 days Blood Borne Pathogen training State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT) Work Environment and Physical Demands Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
