Gujarati PDF Annotation and Transcription Expert

Role Overview

Help create high-quality training data that improves document AI for Gujarati script. You will turn real, publicly available Gujarati PDF pages into complete structural maps and faithful Gujarati-script transcriptions, including challenging handwriting, tables, diagrams, dense multi-column layouts, and mixed-script content from newspapers, textbooks, examinations, flyers, forms, manuals, menus, brochures, notices, and worksheets.

All annotation and transcription work is completed in Gujarati by human experts. Accuracy is the primary quality measure, with handling time also tracked.

Key Responsibilities

• Review assigned PDF pages. Documents are provided, so you will not need to source them yourself.
• Confirm each page is Gujarati, legible, contains meaningful content, and does not display personal details before beginning annotation.
• Identify and draw boundaries around every meaningful page region, including titles, headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, figures, diagrams, captions, formulas, questions, and answer fields.
• Assign each region a component type and reading-order index.
• Link regions to their associated figures or tables using a parent component identifier.
• Transcribe all text exactly as shown in Gujarati script, including handwritten text, and flag regions that cannot be read clearly.
• Record page metadata, including language, document type, source, page dimensions, and whether tables, formulas, or handwriting are present.
• Review a colleague''s completed work end to end. Every task receives a second review by a Gujarati expert, and experienced annotators take on review work.

Qualifications

• Native-level Gujarati fluency, including full command of Gujarati script, orthography, diacritics, and conjunct forms.
• Experience with documents through annotation, transcription, translation, localization, subtitling, proofreading, journalism, or regional-language data review.
• Exceptional character-level precision. A single incorrect diacritic is considered a defect.
• A systematic approach to applying a taxonomy consistently across hundreds of pages.
• Comfort working with unfamiliar formats such as multi-column newspapers, examination papers, and handwritten forms.

Preferred Experience

• Regional-language AI data annotation, labeling, grading, or bilingual evaluation for training datasets.
• Transcription or localization work, including MTPE, subtitling, bilingual QA, OCR correction, or post-editing.
• Gujarati document production, typesetting, copy-editing, proofreading, or digitization.
• Knowledge of Unicode normalization, Gujarati input methods, and accurate numeral and character forms.

Quality Expectations

• Capture, correctly bound, and correctly classify every meaningful page region.
• Reflect the true reading order, including content across columns.
• Produce character-for-character Gujarati-script transcriptions, not transliterations.
• Submit work that passes second-expert review on the first attempt.
• Flag unsuitable pages before substantial annotation time is spent.

Work Terms

• Remote hourly engagement.
• Work with real published Gujarati documents rather than synthetic or templated material.

Compensation

• $11 per hour.

Eligibility

• Gujarati fluency is required. All annotation and transcription must be performed in Gujarati.
