Operations and Finance Manager

Position Overview Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3) Salary: $60,000 - $62,000. The History Department is seeking an experienced individual to serve as Operations and Finance Manager. This role supervises departmental office staff, coordinates curricular and financial matters, and supports the Chair and departmental officers. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership Advise and assist the Chair, Graduate Director, and Undergraduate Director Supervise, train, and mentor two department support staff Contribute to problem‑solving and improvement of departmental efficiency Compile statistics, generate reports, and oversee data management Academic Coordination Lead curricular planning and course scheduling (Banner) and manage department catalog/Bulletin Attend department meetings, take notes, and create minutes as necessary Oversee graduate TA assignments, student registration, recruitment using Slate, and office space coordination Financial Stewardship Manage departmental finance accounts and funding sources, track revenues/expenses, transfers, and budgeting Update monthly finance database and use Business Intelligence platforms for reporting Process HR paperwork and assist with graduate funding lines and discretionary awards Communications & Events Organize annual departmental social events and lectures with faculty Coordinate with Harpur Dean’s office and the Division of Marketing as needed Oversee communications among faculty and between faculty and students Qualifications Bachelor’s degree 2+ years of professional experience Experience with computer software (office products, email, online calendar management, database management, etc.) Effective written and verbal communication skills Effective organization skills and attention to detail Preferred Master’s degree in the liberal arts or related field Experience in an office administration role (records management, resource allocation, budget and financial management, maintenance of confidential records) Supervisory experience of professional employees Experience in higher education Additional Information This position is considered a Campus Security Authority for Clery Act compliance.
