Position Title Respiratory Therapy Team Leader - Advanced Float Nights - Full Time Bell Hospital Position Summary / Career Interest: The Respiratory Therapy Team Leader I assumes responsibility for performing patient care activities and other tasks that contribute to high-quality, safe, and effective patient care. These include executing protocols, dividing workloads, administering respiratory care, educating patients, families, students, and other care providers. Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions Administers, monitors, educates, and assesses the effectiveness of respiratory care for patients, neonatal to geriatric. Follows policies, procedures, standards, and assists with the oversight and training of other therapists, technicians, and students Uses independent judgement in the application of respiratory care protocols and is self-motivated to take responsible and professional action within the scope of practice. Collaborates with physicians and other health system staff to provide quality, safe, and efficient care for the patient. Maintains positive work relationships. Communicates effectively and manages competing priorities. Coordinates the patient care team and leads the team Serves as clinical expert/resource for the designated team. Assists in the precepting and training of therapists, technicians, students, and other members of the Health System team. Participates on the medical response teams (e.g., code, rapid), as needed, and quickly responds to critical situations. Meets expectations outlined in the Respiratory Therapy Clinical Advancement Program. Maintains a patient-centered focus and strives to support the mission, goals, and values of the hospital, department and division. Obtain Job Instruction (JI) certification and serve as trainer within two years of placement in position/hire. Promotes and enhances the culture of the department by: a. Listening to feedback and resolving conflict b. Creating and inspiring an open communication environment c. Motivating others toward organizational goals d. Partnering with leadership to enhance change management strategies e. Helping front-line staff problem solve and escalating issues, as appropriate Competencies by team (must obtain within one year of placement in position/hire): a. Team CA: Trach team b. Team Heart: CTS ICU (including transplant patients and nitric oxide delivery) c. Team 6: Trach team d. Team 4/5: NICU & PICU (including deliveries) e. Team 2: Burn ICU & ED f. Team Advanced Float: NICU & PICU (including deliveries) and ED/Med-Surg Pediatrics (**or competency identified as a critical need by the leadership team) Maintains full competency in two critical skills in addition to team competencies from the list below (Advanced Float team only needs one additional critical skill): Internal: must have one and obtain one within one year of placement in position/hire. External: must obtain both within one year of hire. a. NICU & PICU (NICU AND PICU together qualify as one critical skill) b. Acting shift supervisor c. Emergency Department & Med-Surg Pediatrics d. Offline JI trainer e. Specialty Roles as defined by the leadership team (i.e., trach team, new employee onboarding, etc.) Performs other duties, as assigned (e.g., serves as acting supervisor, takes call, etc.) Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. Required Education and Experience Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field 3 or more years Experience in critical care (internal candidates) 5 or more years Experience in critical care (external candidates) Preferred Education and Experience Bachelors Degree in Respiratory Care or related field Master's Degree in Respiratory Care or related field Experience in clinical instruction of students Additional respiratory therapy work experience and education Required Licensure and Certification Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) upon Hire Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 1 Year Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 1 Year Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to work independently in the NICU Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RT) - State Board of Healing Arts upon Hire Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) upon Hire 20 points in the KURT Clinical Advancement program (not applicable for external candidates) 18 CEs each year (not applicable for external candidates) Required Language Skills Fluent English - Knowledge Requirements Proficient in EPI #J-18808-Ljbffr Kansas Health System
