Insurance Coverage Associate Attorney

Christian & Small LLP is seeking an experienced Insurance Coverage Associate Attorney to join our growing Insurance practice in our Birmingham, AL office. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled litigator with insurance coverage expertise to take on significant responsibility, work directly with clients and partners, and advance their career in a supportive, dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and provide coverage opinions on various insurance policies (CGL, professional liability, property, excess/umbrella, etc.)
• Handle insurance coverage litigation, including declaratory judgment actions, bad faith claims, and coverage disputes in state and federal courts
• Defend and advise insurers in complex coverage matters
• Collaborate with the firm’s broader litigation team on insurance-related defense and commercial matters
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, briefs, and coverage correspondence
• Conduct depositions, prepare witnesses, and support trials/arbitrations
• Provide strategic counseling to clients on risk management and coverage issues

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in the Alabama State Bar (or eligibility for prompt admission)
• 2+ years of relevant civil litigation experience, with a strong focus on insurance coverage work
• Demonstrated experience drafting coverage opinions and litigating coverage disputes
• Excellent analytical, writing, research, and oral advocacy skills
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple matters efficiently
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while exercising sound judgment
