Maintenance Mechanic - Food Processing Manufacturing

Dietz & Watson is seeking experienced Maintenance Mechanics to support the reliability, performance, and continuous operation of our food processing and packaging equipment. This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving a wide range of automated production systems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Experience maintaining material handling equipment, including electric pallet jacks and powered industrial trucks, is highly preferred.

The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, a preventative maintenance mindset, and experience working with complex food manufacturing equipment while adhering to strict safety and quality standards.

Qualifications & Experience

What You Bring

• 3+ years of maintenance experience in a food processing, manufacturing, packaging, or industrial production environment.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated manufacturing systems.
• Experience troubleshooting production equipment, conveyors, packaging machines, pumps, motors, and control systems.
• Ability to diagnose equipment issues efficiently and implement effective corrective actions.
• Experience working with PLC-controlled machinery is preferred.
• Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
• Familiarity with welding, fabrication, and equipment installation is preferred.
• Experience maintaining material handling equipment, including electric pallet jacks, is highly desirable.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety and food safety compliance.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and respond effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

• Ability to work in refrigerated production environments maintained at approximately 32°F or below.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, reach, and climb throughout the workday.
• Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds.
• Comfortable working around industrial machinery and manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and varying shifts as business needs require.
• Military maintenance, mechanical, electrical, and technical experience is highly valued and encouraged to apply.

Minimum Requirements


What You Bring

• Visually inspect machinery /equipment for defects such as breakage or excessive wear
• Repairing production or processing equipment.
• Specializes in troubleshooting and repair of modern automated equipment.
• Troubleshoots and analyzes complex problems and implements proper remedies while ensuring that all safety guidelines and regulations are adhered to when repairing or maintaining equipment.
• Listen for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunctions.
• Collaborate with other maintenance technicians and engineering staff to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
• Dismantle defective machines and equipment and install new or repaired parts.
• Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery and equipment.
• Maintain operations of systems such as pneumatic, hydraulic, ammonia, etc.
• Install and repair electrical apparatus, such as transformers, breakers, switches, receptacles, wiring, and electronic components of machinery and equipment.
• Repair, replace, and maintain the physical structure of equipment.
• Operate cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
• Preventative maintenance of equipment.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and manuals.
• Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
• Working with Material Handling Equipment daily.
• Fast paced work environment with, in, and around industrial machinery.
• Cold storage environment. Production rooms are kept at a constant 32 degrees (and below in certain areas). Ability to withstand cold storage temps for extended periods of time.
• Capability to bend, twist, and squat as needed throughout the shift.
• Ability to lift to 50 pounds without reasonable assistance.
• Must be able to frequently push, pull, kneel, bend, and reach with both arms.
• Ability to work in a refrigerated environment. Production rooms are kept at a constant 32 degrees (and below in certain areas). Ability to withstand cold storage temps for extended periods of time
