Senior Cloud Hardware Engineer, Optical Networks

Salary: $180,000 - 225,000 per year Requirements:

• We require a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• We look for 8+ years of experience in mechanical design for hardware systems and components.
• We require 8+ years of experience with thermal simulation and validation testing.
• We look for 4+ years of experience building and automating validation testbeds for thermal and mechanical characterization.
• We require 4+ years of experience analyzing data and presenting data-driven deep dives on thermal and mechanical design.
• We look for 2+ years of experience working on manufacturing processes and qualifications.
• We require 1+ years of professional development experience with Python or a similar scripting language for automation.
• Preferred qualifications include a PhD in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, physics, or an equivalent field.
• We prefer deep expertise in the mechanical and thermal design and development of optical modules.
• We prefer experience debugging and troubleshooting hardware.
• We prefer experience with thermal simulation tools such as ANSYS Icepak, FloTHERM, or COMSOL, and mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Creo.
• We prefer experience working with ODM and CM suppliers of optical modules.
• We prefer experience across the product development lifecycle.
• We value the ability to innovate or invent hardware solutions for business challenges.

• We collaborate with vendors and manufacturers to assess new mechanical and thermal design concepts, materials, and assembly methods for optical modules.
• We develop and execute mechanical and thermal designs for optical modules and systems, including structural analysis, tolerance stack-up, and enclosure or housing design.
• We perform thermal simulation and validation to confirm optical modules meet thermal performance targets across operating conditions.
• We develop and automate test plans for structural verification, thermal characterization, mechanical reliability, and environmental qualification of optical modules.
• We work with vendors and manufacturers to define and run mechanical and thermal test plans that validate designs through prototyping and production.
• We lead design-for-manufacturing initiatives, partnering with operations teams to improve yield, streamline assembly, and lower cost.
• We partner with operations teams to identify quality issues, improve manufacturing yields, and optimize RMA processes for optical module hardware.
