Regional Training & Operations Technician

Position Summary This position is responsible for operating multiple Veolia contracted client water and wastewater facilities. The primary purpose is to cover vacations and absences at existing facilities, assist in training and developing local operations teams, and support new account start‑ups. Responsibilities include overall operation and maintenance of accounts in the region, process changes for compliance, troubleshooting, routine and preventive maintenance, sampling, laboratory testing, and daily shift reporting. The role requires significant travel, ranging from 1‑2 weeks to up to a month for extenuating circumstances. Essential Operational Duties and Responsibilities Maintain complete operational coverage of Veolia operated facilities in your region for vacations and unplanned absences, including both day and night shifts. Assist in the operational development of all local technicians, conducting in‑person hands‑on training visits, developing electronic training materials, and directing training efforts for new hires. Ensure industry standards and best practices are applied, covering recordkeeping, lab testing, operational practices, and preventive maintenance. Support new account start‑up projects by working with the Senior Wastewater Operational Technician team to develop tasks, procedures, and goals, and train newly hired technicians. Provide knowledgeable support to local technicians, helping troubleshoot process issues and ensuring proactive decision‑making. Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate water flow into the wastewater treatment plant. Collect and test wastewater samples to determine concentration levels and impurities at scheduled frequencies. Accurately record client data such as residual content of chemicals, water turbidity, and water pressure. Comply with all Veolia and multiple safety parameters and programs. Analyze lab data to uncover potential treatment issues and implement process changes to prevent non‑compliance. Compile data for the Environmental Protection Agency or state regulatory bodies as required. Coordinate with other operators to maintain wastewater treatment equipment. Consult with multiples and Veolia management to determine optimal wastewater treatment strategies. Essential Maintenance Duties and Responsibilities Coordinate with multiples to schedule third‑party maintenance for projects outside Veolia’s scope of work. Complete all preventive maintenance defined by Veolia and multiple management, documenting each task. Assist in completing all minor maintenance projects to keep the wastewater treatment facility operating effectively. Assist in completing all intermediate maintenance projects, including mechanical pump seal changes, packing seal replacements, impeller replacements, and full PVC line replacements. Supervisory Responsibilities Show willingness and availability to work with fellow operators on off‑shifts during problems or operator assistance needs. Provide 24/7 availability to wastewater operators and multiple management. Communicate frequently with the Veolia Account Manager regarding operation status, compliance, maintenance, and personnel issues. Provide supervision and leadership to the team, exemplifying hard work, attention to detail, fair treatment, and accountability. Direct the team on daily operation and maintenance, ensuring compliance through process changes, chemical feed rates, and maintenance activities. Facilitate training for operators on all facets of operation and management. Provide clear verbal and written instructions, and create and maintain facility‑specific SOPs. Continuously optimize operation, chemistry, and equipment to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Innovation / Planning / Budget Develop creative and innovative ideas to improve processes related to the job or department. Schedule work independently. Manage inventories, including lab supplies and consumable items, without handling a budget. Improve processes related to operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant. Manage maintenance program inventories, consumables, and equipment parts. Decision Making Receive assignments with expected results, due dates, and general procedures. Make process changes based on lab data and general knowledge to address compliance issues or improve treatment. Exercise independent judgment on commonly encountered problems; refer unusual cases to a supervisor. Discuss significant issues with the account manager to ensure reasonable actions comply with the contract. Evaluate operator skills to assign laboratory analyses, maintenance, preventive maintenance, chemical inventories, and waste disposal tasks. Assess maintenance projects and determine required outside support, coordinating with client maintenance teams. Participate in team meetings and discussions; collaborate regularly with team members. Cover each other’s absences to maintain contracted coverage. Maintain continuous communication with clients and Veolia management. Communicate training progress and overall site operations status to Veolia management. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace. Strong mechanical aptitude preferred. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Willingness to learn and follow instructions on wastewater treatment processes. Operational experience with site‑specific equipment preferred. 3+ years of experience in wastewater treatment plant operations or related field. Prior experience in a traveling work role preferred. Working Conditions The work environment includes wastewater treatment plant and outdoors. Exposure to extreme weather, chemicals, electrical hazards, and loud noise is possible. The role requires lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds, climbing a 30‑foot ladder, standing for long periods, and working in tight spaces. Day, night, and 12‑hour shifts are required, with emergency call‑ins or phone support as necessary. Additional Information All information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
