Job Title: Avionics Technician
Job Description
The Avionics Technician takes ownership of complex avionics installations and repairs on commercial aircraft, general aviation planes, and corporate turboprops and jets. This role focuses on installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining advanced avionics systems from leading manufacturers while ensuring all work meets regulatory, safety, and quality standards. The technician also provides technical leadership, signs off completed work using appropriate certifications, and supports a growing operation with expanding aircraft capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist the avionics department and provide day-to-day technical direction for avionics installations and repairs.
- Perform complete avionics installations on commercial aircraft, general aviation aircraft, and corporate jets from initial layout through final testing.
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain avionics systems from Garmin, Honeywell, and Rockwell Collins, ensuring proper configuration and integration.
- Carry out avionics work on corporate turboprops and jets, including aircraft such as Global Expresses, Learjets, Hawkers, and Citations.
- Use hand tools and appropriate equipment to install, terminate, and route wiring and electrical harnesses for avionics systems.
- Diagnose and repair avionics issues, including electrical and installation-related problems, to restore full system functionality.
- Review and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and installation manuals to plan and execute accurate installations.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable aviation regulations, company procedures, and quality standards.
- Sign off completed work using a repairman certificate when applicable, particularly for technicians who do not hold an A&P license.
- Collaborate with other maintenance teams, including heavy maintenance, upholstery, interior, and composite work groups, to coordinate aircraft projects.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and protect aircraft interiors and structures during avionics installation and repair activities.
- Work safely in confined spaces and on or around aircraft structures, following all safety protocols.
- Contribute to the successful execution of major repairs, alterations, and upgrades as part of expanded operational specifications covering a large fleet of aircraft.
Essential Skills
- 5-7 years of avionics experience for the technician level, including complete installation capabilities on commercial aircraft and general aviation.
- Demonstrated experience with avionics installation, troubleshooting, and repair on corporate turboprops and jets such as Global Expresses, Learjets, Hawkers, and Citations.
- Strong hands-on skills using hand tools and equipment for avionics installation and electrical work.
- Proven ability to install and service avionics systems from Garmin, Honeywell, and Rockwell Collins.
- Experience working specifically on corporate aviation aircraft, rather than military platforms or large commercial aircraft such as Boeing 747s.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in confined spaces on and within aircraft structures.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform wrenching, fastening, and assembly tasks with precision.
- Solid understanding of aircraft electrical systems and harness installation.
- Capability to sign off work using a repairman certificate when applicable, particularly when not holding an A&P license.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, wiring diagrams, and installation instructions.
- Strong troubleshooting skills to identify, analyze, and resolve avionics issues efficiently.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- A&P (Airframe and Powerplant) license preferred but not required for the role.
- At least 5 years of avionics experience suitable for a junior technician level, with growth potential toward lead responsibilities.
- Experience with installation and maintenance across a variety of corporate aircraft types.
- Comfort working within a facility that performs heavy maintenance, upholstery, interior work, major repairs, alterations, and composite repairs.
- Willingness to pursue manufacturer-specific training and certifications, including Garmin certifications.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary maintenance and modification teams.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship in all avionics tasks.
- Adaptability to work in a growing organization with expanding operational specifications and aircraft capabilities.
Why Work Here?
You join a rapidly growing aviation organization that invests heavily in its people and their professional development. The company offers substantial sign-on and relocation bonuses, reflecting a strong commitment to attracting and retaining top talent. You gain the opportunity to work on cutting-edge avionics projects across a wide range of aircraft in an operation that is expanding its fleet capabilities and pursuing significant new contracts. Continuous training, including access to Garmin certifications and other manufacturer programs, supports your long-term career growth. You become part of a close-knit team in a dynamic environment where your expertise directly contributes to the company’s success and future expansion.
Work Environment
The role is based in a 46,000-square-foot aviation facility that includes three hangars and supports a broad range of maintenance and modification activities. The operation has grown from 8 to 32 employees in two years and is targeting a workforce of around 50 by the end of the year, creating an energetic and evolving environment. The facility serves as a universal distributor for Garmin, Honeywell, and Rockwell Collins, and supports heavy maintenance, upholstery, interior work, major repairs, alterations, and composite projects. Expanded operational specifications add capabilities for approximately 300 aircraft, providing exposure to diverse airframes and systems. Work is hands-on around aircraft, often in confined spaces, and involves the use of standard hand tools and electrical installation equipment in a professional hangar setting.
