Job Opportunity – Pediatric Float Pool Registered Nurse – Virginia

Start Date: September 14, 2026

Schedule: Night shift, 36 or 48 hours per week, 13-week assignment. Every other weekend and every other holiday required. Block scheduling cannot be accommodated.

Highlights:

• Float pool position covering various pediatric units including PICU, NICU, Pediatric Medical-Surgical, Pediatric PACU, Pediatric ED boarders, and Postpartum/Mother Baby
• Work with a comprehensive interdisciplinary support team including respiratory services, physical therapy, child life specialists, and pharmacy
• Epic EMR system utilized facility-wide
• 60 hours of orientation provided to support successful onboarding
• Up to 40 hours of approved time off during the assignment (not available during first 2 weeks)
• Opportunity to work with diverse patient populations ranging from neonates to adolescents in a regional transfer center

Requirements:

• Current Virginia RN license (may submit with pending license; must be in hand by Wednesday before start date)
• Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
• Previous NICU and PACU experience required; must be comfortable working with pediatric populations
• Previous float pool experience in NICU/PICU highly preferred
• Epic EMR experience required
• Active certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP required
• Dr. Browns Infant-Driven Feeding Certification required (may submit with pending; $185 cost)
• Pediatric PACU experience highly preferred
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• BSN preferred
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Must adhere to facility float policy and be willing to float within scope of practice

Clinical Expertise Required:

• Ventilator management and care of ventilated patients
• Hemodynamic monitoring and arterial line management
• Central line care and management
• Administration of blood and blood products
• IV vasopressor management
• Pediatric dosage calculations
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) and BiPAP/CPAP management
• Management of chest tubes and tracheostomy care
• Interpretation of arterial blood gases and dysrhythmias
• Experience with Level III NICU patient populations

Unit Details:

• PICU: 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio for critically ill pediatric patients requiring advanced interventions
• NICU: 1:2 ratio in ICU, 1:3 in intermediate care section; 54-bed unit serving as regional transfer center
• Acute Pediatrics: 1:4 to 1:5 ratio; 40-bed unit with stepdown capabilities
• Pediatric ED: Variable ratios dependent on patient acuity and level of care required
• May occasionally float to Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby during staffing emergencies
