A well-established machining and manufacturing company in Decatur is seeking an experienced Accounting Clerk to work directly alongside the Vice President of Finance. This role is ideal for someone with a strong accounting background who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and is eager to grow into a key financial leadership position. The successful candidate will be comfortable overseeing a broad range of financial activities, including work across multiple business locations.
Responsibilities

• Support the Vice President of Finance with day-to-day accounting operations and financial activities.
• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and in a timely manner.
• Prepare and issue customer invoices, ensuring completeness and accuracy of billing information.
• Perform regular bank reconciliations and reconcile general ledger accounts to maintain accurate financial records.
• Assist with month-end close procedures, including journal entries and financial adjustments.
• Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring proper classification and documentation of transactions.
• Compile, review, and distribute financial reports to support management decision-making.
• Perform data entry and maintain organized accounting records and documentation.
• Support payroll processing activities and verify accuracy of payroll-related data.
• Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and supporting materials.
• Use QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel to manage financial data, generate reports, and perform analysis.
• Help manage accounting activities across multiple accounts or business locations, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
• Collaborate with leadership and office staff to ensure smooth financial operations within the manufacturing environment.
• Identify discrepancies in financial data and resolve issues through research, analysis, and communication with relevant stakeholders.

Essential Skills

• 2-3+ years of accounting experience in a professional setting.
• Previous experience in an accounting leadership or supervisory role such as Controller, Office Manager, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or a similar position.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and journal entries.
• Hands-on experience with month-end close procedures and related financial processes.
• Proficiency in performing bank reconciliations and maintaining accurate account balances.
• Ability to produce and interpret financial reporting for management and stakeholders.
• Experience managing multiple accounts or supporting accounting functions across multiple business locations.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Solid analytical skills and attention to detail when reviewing financial data.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reporting, and reconciliation tasks.
• Practical experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
• Capability to handle accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, and bookkeeping tasks.
• Experience supporting payroll processing and related accounting activities.
• Comfort working in a machining and manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, AL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00/hr.
