Job Title: Senior Accountant

SUMMARY

Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by performing the following duties. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries such as to general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.

Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for other managers.

Reviews agings and corresponds with property managers on large balances, write-offs, and questions regarding A/R, G/L, and other reports.

Audits contracts, orders, and vouchers, and prepares reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement.

Audits non-operating A/P invoices, check request forms, legal bills, lease commissions, tenant improvement jobs, and expense reports.

Generates non-tenant daily deposit forms. On a weekly basis, reviews these deposits for correct application.

Monthly:

Compiles, maintains, and reconciles general ledger accounts. Reconciles management fees and prepares payment. 

Reviews and approves bank reconciliations.

Prepares and reviews cash flows and monthly report; distributes copies to appropriate departments and/or managers.

Prepares or requests debt service wires / payments.

Prepares and files sales tax reporting per state and county requirements.

If applicable, maintains job cost information, prepares loan and operating draws for month-end funding, and monitors project budgets.

Responsible for preparing and submission of all lender draw requests.

Prepares and submits all required lender financials.

Annually, or as needed:

Prepares required reporting for lenders and owners; quarterly and annually.

Works with Property or Asset Manager to compile cash flow or reforecast.

Inputs property tax, insurance, debt service payments, reserves, and draws, if applicable, for each respective property / portfolio budget.

Assists in the review of annual budgets for accuracy. May assist in the annual input or preparation, if necessary.

Compiles year-end work paper packages, fixed asset schedules, and financial statements. May work directly or indirectly with CPA firms inclusive of owners’ or clients’ accountants. Books adjusting tax entries.

Responds to auditors, if applicable.

As properties are purchased or sold, performs acquisition or disposition entries as needed to timely facilitate the beginning or closing of financials.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Accounting from four-year college or university; five (5) years commercial real estate accounting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, attorneys, and outside CPA firms .

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Ability to plan ahead and to think logically to avoid potential issues/problems.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

CPA designation or MBA, a plus.

Computer Skills: Accounting-Yardi, Office 365 – Outlook, Excel (advanced),
