Silvus Technologies is a wholly owned subsidiary of Motorola Solutions, Inc. Job Description The opportunity: Silvus is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the hardware engineering team. The role reports to the Team Lead, Mechanical Engineering and focuses on electromechanical hardware for advanced R&D projects. The position is hybrid – a minimum of three onsite days per week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays) at Silvus HQ in West Los Angeles, CA. Role and Responsibilities Develop innovative, manufacturable packaging designs for new products, creating detailed CAD drawings and bills of materials (BOMs). Participate in product failure root‑cause analysis and implement design improvements. Provide technical support and guidance to production assembly and quality assurance teams. Perform hands‑on troubleshooting and failure analysis of electromechanical assemblies. Define and execute comprehensive First Article Acceptance Test Plans (FAAT) and Design Verification Tests (DVT) for new hardware. Define the manufacturing processes (DFM/DFA) and provide ongoing production support. Design peripheral components and accessories, focusing on usability and durability, to meet project specifications and standards. Design, analyze, and test product thermal management systems to ensure optimal performance. Consistently improve product quality by staying current with the latest technologies. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Strong knowledge of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals. Experience designing products with DoD MIL‑STD requirements (e.g., MIL‑STD‑810G, MIL‑STD‑461). Proficiency in SolidWorks (preferred) or equivalent CAD tools, able to generate and interpret 2D and 3D drawings. Fundamental electrical engineering knowledge, including wiring and harness design. U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident) required for federal contract compliance. Successful background check and drug test clearance. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Experience in electromechanical packaging design for rugged, waterproof electronic products. Knowledge of product design for harsh environments and material selection for maritime applications. Prototyping experience (e.g., 3D printing, CNC machining) to accelerate design validation. Experience with FEA modeling and thermal analysis using simulation tools. Self‑driven, motivated, and able to “get the work done.” Strong attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality designs. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Office environment with occasional exposure to heat, cold, and allergens during field tests or demonstrations. Physical requirements include lifting up to 20lbs, bending, reaching, kneeling or squatting, and walking/moving in labs. Compensation $90,000 – $125,000 per year.
