Description:

The Benefits Specialist is responsible for the design, administration, and continuous improvement of the organization's employee benefits programs, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This role manages all aspects of benefits administration, including health and welfare plans, retirement programs, leave benefits, wellness initiatives, and vendor relationships. The Benefits Specialist oversees the annual open enrollment process, coordinates with carriers and third-party administrators, provides employee education and support regarding benefit offerings, and ensures accurate enrollment, reporting, and recordkeeping.

Responsibilities

• Manage health, dental, vision, retirement (401(k), life insurance, disability, and other voluntary benefits.
• Oversee open enrollment, life event changes, and terminations; process enrollments, updates, and coordination of COBRA with third party.
• Ensure adherence to ERISA, ACA, COBRA, FMLA, HIPAA, ADA, and other applicable regulations
• Educate employees on benefits options, eligibility, plan changes, wellness program and respond to inquiries.
• Collaborate with insurance providers, brokers, and HRIS vendors to ensure seamless benefits administration and efficient process flow.
• Partner with broker and/or carrier to process and resolve employee claims, invoices, and billing discrepancies
• Audit benefit data, reconcile payroll deductions, and prepare reports on usage, cost and trends.
• Administer FMLA, ADA, USERRA, Short Term Disability/Long Term Disability and other leave policies.
• Support wellness initiatives and help design competitive benefits to attract and retain talent.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
• 5 + years in benefits administration
• Experience administering and managing both level-funded and self-funded health and welfare benefit plans.
• CEBS (Certified Employee Benefits Specialist), GBA (General Benefits Administrator), CBP (Certified Benefit Professional), SHRM-CP, PHR strongly preferred.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of benefits laws and regulations.
• Proficiency in HRIS and benefits administration software.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to analyze and solve problems.
• Detail-oriented with accuracy in data and compliance tasks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); HRIS experience preferred
• Detail-oriented with strong follow-through abilities.
• Remote/Hybrid – at any point, if required to work from home a minimum internet speed of 75Mbps and reliable cellular signal is required to be able to do this job effectively 

Physical & Work Requirements 

While performing the duties of this job

• Ability to sit for extended periods of time entering data into the computer.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to ten pounds.
• Ability to concentrate and stay on tasks for extended periods of time.
