Professional Civil Engineer

Moody and Associates

Description:

Professional Engineer is a mid-level position that will manage and oversee complex infrastructure and engineering development projects. This position will be based out of either the Meadville, PA or Erie, PA office location, depending on the location of the candidate. The Professional Engineer will demonstrate strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Key responsibilities include project planning and coordination, technical analysis and review, and proactive engagement with stakeholders to ensure quality, compliance, and timely project delivery. This role also calls for effective problem-solving skills, leadership in guiding junior engineers, and a commitment to upholding professional standards and continuous improvement. Additional duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Upholding all company, client, and governmental safety requirements throughout project lifecycles.
  • Maintaining effective communication with clients, team members, subcontractors, and management at all stages.
  • Assisting with the development of technical proposals, change orders, and comprehensive cost estimates, as well as defining clear scopes of work.
  • Collaborating with other departments for efficient project delivery and resolution of technical challenges.
  • Overseeing or assisting with the preparation and approval of project deliverables, including detailed reports, permit applications, and engineering work plans.
  • Reviewing civil engineering plans, specifications, calculations, and design documents for site development, grading, stormwater management, utilities, erosion and sediment control, and related infrastructure improvements.
  • Providing technical oversight during field investigations, construction observation, and project implementation to verify work is completed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, permits, and applicable codes or standards.
  • Managing the scheduling, coordinating with clients, subcontractors, and vendors for equipment procurement and rental.
  • Providing timely updates on project progress and communicating key milestones and features to both internal teams and clients.
  • Interpreting technical data, including tables, graphs, and figures, to inform decision-making and project adjustments.
  • Processing project submittals and maintaining comprehensive submittal logs for accurate project documentation.
  • Adherence to all company and client mandated safety requirements.
  • Frequent communication with clients, coworkers, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, and management.
  • Developing and/or assisting with proposals and change orders, including scope of services and cost estimates for projects.
  • Maintain most up to date project documentation and communicate changes to appropriate parties.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required, occasionally work out-of-town, if necessary, in all seasonal weather conditions.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities at time, if necessary, to achieve project and/or company goals.

The Professional Engineer may have the authority to direct and oversee other staff members, including S1, S2, or S3, and lower-level positions within the engineering department as appropriate for their assignments. While a Professional Engineer typically leads project teams and provides guidance to other staff working under their supervision, they must ensure that all significant client communications and any deviations from the established project scope are clearly communicated to the appropriate project manager, if applicable, or another senior manager before implementation.

The Professional Engineer has the authority to oversee all aspects of designated projects, ensuring that each phase is executed in line with project goals and standards. They may make key decisions related to project progress, resource allocation, and team coordination, provided these remain within the established project scope. The Professional Engineer is expected to exercise sound judgment, communicate significant developments to the appropriate senior manager, and support both project success and staff advancement.
