FTE: 30 hours per week Starting payrate is $15.30 - $18.78/hour based on experience.

Compensation is based on education level available and years of experience.

Qualifications: Minimum of 60 Semester Hours of College Credit or Associates Degree Proper ISBE Licensure

Job Function: To assist special education teachers, regular classroom teachers and Student Service personnel in addressing the educational needs of student(s) with disabilities.

Reports To: Principal Assistant Principal (Middle School) Special Education Department Chair (High School) Student Support Specialist (Elementary)

Essential Tasks

In order to meet the District goals supporting the success of all Geneva students, the Special Education Assistant:

• Delivers interventions to individual students or groups of students to address deficit areas at the direction of certified personnel.
• Facilitates social interactions and teaches replacement behaviors per student's Individual Education Plan (IEP).
• Supervises student(s) during non-academic times: lunch, recess, arrival and/or departure as necessary.
• Assist student(s) as needed in art, music, P.E. and special classes.
• Carries out modifications and/or adaptations during the school day, at the direction of certified staff, to meet individual needs and abilities.
• Communicates with classroom teacher, special education teacher, inclusion facilitator, and related service providers regarding student's educational program and progress.
• Participates in team meetings with classroom teachers, special education teachers, inclusion facilitator, and related service providers, to plan educational programming.
• Assists certified staff in preparation of materials needed for modified or adapted program.
• Lifts, moves, and operates adaptive equipment.
• Provides physical care for student(s) per IEP.
• Assists students with personal care tasks, including but not limited to lavatory, clothing, hygiene, diapering, toileting, and wash-up routines.
• Assists in regular classroom activities as determined by the teacher.
• Assists students with mobility needs such as lifting and positioning students; lifting in and out of wheelchairs; loading and unloading on the bus; transporting students in and around the school and on field trips.
• Collects data required to report on IEP goals or develop academic and behavior plans.
• Assists in carrying out behavioral interventions developed to facilitate student's social and emotional growth.
• Job coaches for students attending vocational training.
• Accompanies special education students on school sponsored field trips.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Significant standing; some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling; significant fine finger dexterity. Must have the ability to lift 60 lbs.
