Maintenance Mechanic

Acts as a field mechanic working at and responding to multiple Reliever Airports. Performs skilled mechanical work on automotive equipment, including but not limited to trucks, snow plows, sanders, sweepers, mowers, runway brooms, snow blowers and miscellaneous airport equipment. Adjusts, repairs, replaces and overhauls diesel and gasoline engines, chassis units and electrical, ignition, fuel, exhaust, cooling, lubricating, and hydraulic systems. Assists as necessary with machine work; occasionally does acetylene and arc welding. This is a safety-sensitive position which will require a pre-employment drug screen. Relationships Supervisory – Reports to Manager of Reliever Airports Organizational – Frequent contact with MAC departments submitting automotive, or maintenance equipment for servicing. External Business – Occasional contact with vendors of automotive and/or mechanical parts Job Duties Repair and Overhaul Gasoline and Diesel Engines Remove and replace engines from automotive equipment. Inspect, adjust, repair and/or replace parts, including valves, pistons and main bearing assemblies. Assist with related machine work. Occasionally do acetylene or arc welding. Remove and Overhaul Chassis Units, including but not limited to: Brake system Transmission Differential Front and rear axle Inspect, Adjust and Repair Systems, such as: Lubricating system Cooling system Fuel system Exhaust system Hydraulic system Repair and Overhaul Mechanical Attachments to Automotive Equipment Snow plows Sweeper attachments Mowers Sanding equipment Trailers Snow and Ice Removal Provide back-up to Airport Maintenance Workers for snow and ice removal using equipment; i.e. runway snow blowers, runway plows and brooms, ramp push plows, tractors, sanders, liquid chemical dispensing vehicles, and snow hauling duties Perform manual snow removal operations duties Other Duties Check and change oil and oil filters Grease and lubricate vehicles and equipment Inspect, repair, rotate, balance and replace tires Check and replace batteries Check and maintain fluid levels Check vehicles for service due dates Perform light radiator maintenance Steam clean engines and equipment Perform general cleaning work in repair shops Perform radio installations, removals and minor repairs Process fleet management work orders and inventory control Keep accurate records of fluids dispersed, vehicle mileage, hours, tires, oil filters, materials and supplies taken from inventory Perform weekly inspection of fuel system and submit monthly fuel use reports Order fuel and lubricants, parts for repairs and supplies with approval of the Airport Manager Occasionally perform metal fabrication and welding of equipment Remove and re-stack runway broom cores Act as backup/supplemental mechanic for Reliever Airports if necessary Perform other duties as assigned Individual Contributor (IC) Competencies Customer Focus – Building strong customer relationships and delivering customer‑centric solutions Decision Quality – Making good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward Action Oriented – Taking on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy and enthusiasm Optimizes Work Processes – Knowing the most effective and efficient processes to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement Ensures Accountability – Holding self and others accountable to meet commitments Collaborates – Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives Values Differences – Recognizing the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to an organization Communicates Effectively – Developing and delivering multi‑mode communications that convey a clear understanding of unique needs of different audiences Courage – Stepping up to address difficult issues, saying what needs to be said Instills Trust – Gaining the confidence and trust of others through honesty, integrity and authenticity Self-Development – Actively seeking new ways to grow and be challenged using both formal and informal development channels Situational Adaptability – Adapting approach and demeanor in real time to match the shifting demands of different situations Minimum Requirements Two-year degree in automotive or diesel mechanics OR a high school diploma or GED and five years’ experience in performing diagnostic and troubleshooting operations on late model car and light truck ignition, fuel and emission systems Two years troubleshooting or repair experience on open and closed center hydraulic systems and hydrostatic unitsFive years’ experience in performing skilled mechanical work on both gasoline and diesel engines Possession of a valid state issued driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and the ability to obtain a Class “A” CDL within six months Experience using digital volt‑ohm meters, voltage amperage testers, breakout boxes and scanning tool Ability to read hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical schematic drawings Possess a complete set of hand tools for automotive and heavy truck repair by the time of employment Ability to work outdoors under severe and varying weather conditions of extended periods of time Ability to lift, carry and position up to 50 lbs. and perform heavy manual labor Excellent written and oral communication skills Ability to pass criminal history and employment background check Desirable Requirements Possession of a valid state issued commercial driver's license (CDL) Class “A” with a satisfactory driving record Additional training in automotive and heavy truck repair Experience in open and closed center hydraulic systems or hydrostatic units Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications #J-18808-Ljbffr Metroairports
