Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join our litigation team. The Associate Attorney will handle a diverse caseload focusing on tort defense in areas including transportation, medical malpractice, construction torts, negligence, and general liability matters. The role requires strong litigation skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage cases from intake through trial while collaborating with senior attorneys and clients to achieve favorable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload in defense and civil litigation matters, including transportation, medical malpractice, construction torts, and general negligence claims.
• Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, responses, and briefs in state and federal courts.
• Prepare for and attend depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials; assist with trial preparation and strategy development.
• Evaluate liability and exposure; develop case strategies in collaboration with supervising partners and clients.
• Communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and court personnel; coordinate with medical and industry experts as needed.
• Oversee and analyze discovery, including document review, subpoenas, and expert reports; manage e-discovery where applicable.
• Negotiate settlements and participate in mediations to resolve claims efficiently and cost-effectively.
• Mentor and supervise paralegals and junior staff on case tasks and deadlines; manage court calendars and filing requirements.
• Maintain accurate case files, billing records, and comply with firm procedures and ethical rules.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to the state bar in good standing.
• 2+ years of litigation experience preferred; experience in defense work, transportation law, medical malpractice, construction torts, or personal injury preferred.
• Strong courtroom experience or demonstrable trial advocacy skills, including depositions and motion practice.
• Proven ability to analyze liability issues and manage complex case strategies.
• Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
• Familiarity with tort law, negligence standards, malpractice claims, and liability exposure assessment.
• Experience working with medical and transportation experts and understanding of relevant industry regulations.
• Ability to handle multiple matters, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• High ethical standards, strong client service orientation, and proficiency with case management and e-discovery tools.
