Associate Marketing Manager

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials is currently hiring an Associate Marketing Manager, a full-time position located in our Washington, DC office.

Nature of Position:

The Associate Marketing Manager, AASHTOWare, is primarily responsible for conceptualizing and implementing AASHTOWare’s internal and external marketing strategies, marketing communications, and public relations activities. This position works closely with the AASHTOWare division and key stakeholders to ensure marketing efforts align with business needs and the goals of the AASHTO Strategic Plan.

Responsibilities include supporting the goal of increasing member agency and public awareness of the AASHTOWare program and its suite of products, services, and value proposition, while enhancing the program’s image and position within the marketplace. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the consistent application of AASHTOWare brand guidelines across communications and marketing materials. This includes reviewing external presentations, publications, and other communications to ensure brand standards are consistently applied, as appropriate. In fulfilling these responsibilities, the incumbent will draft and develop content for review, often translating complex technical information into communications that are accessible and engaging broader audiences.

The incumbent will also coordinate, produce, and as needed, delegate the development and delivery of marketing materials supporting AASHTOWare’s presence at meetings, conferences, and other events.

Essential Responsibilities:

Develops, implements, and takes ownership of annual marketing and communications work plans to promote and support AASHTOWare, including individual plans specific to the needs of and each of the specific product areas.

Delivers strategic input and feedback for non-product related groups (such as the AASHTOWare Alliance Program) of AASHTOWare regarding organization brand messaging and communications. Acts as a liaison when required for communication between AASHTOWare and non-product committees.

Develops, maintains and executes a comprehensive schedule of communications outreach and marketing efforts, inclusive of due dates, desired audience, delivery method, and actual date disseminated or launched for each planned effort,

Executes and analyzes product email campaigns to achieve engagement and revenue goals for products and services. Uses marketing analytics to understand campaign results and offer insights and recommendations to refine and improve marketing efforts on an on-going basis.

Utilizes Canva, Adobe InDesign, and HubSpot to create marketing materials such as promotional e-mails, advertising copy/graphics, exhibit displays, social media posts, newsletters and handout materials; collaborating with AASHTO graphic designers, program managers, and members as needed.

Maintains social media presence on LinkedIn. This includes developing calendars and content, responding to incoming messages, and actively engaging with external communications to maintain AASHTOWare’s brand presence.

Creates and often staffs experiential marketing booths and displays to effectively communicate brand messaging. Collaborates with Program Managers and other AASHTO employees to develop and maintain a schedule of meeting presence that best executes the marketing plans. Provides staff support for marketing at meetings and conferences as needed.

Works with web contractors on evaluating usability and visual design and making recommendations for improvements to the AASHTOWare website.

Assists in preparing draft budgets for marketing-related activities with guidance from the Marketing Manager.

Position Requirements:

The successful candidate will have 6-8 years of experience in marketing, communications, or public relations with demonstrated success, preferably in the nonprofit or association sector. Software industry experience and experience working with volunteers are preferred. A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in marketing, public relations, or communications.

The incumbent must have demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications and public relations activities as well as strong creative, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills. The incumbent will need excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to translate technical information for marketing purposes. Ability to manage multiple projects at a time, work under pressure, effectively work with multiple program managers, meet deadlines, assimilate information quickly, and work well with members and coworkers is necessary. A commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams is required.

The incumbent must have demonstrated use of various technologies to market programs and services, including social media, Adobe software products, MS Office and online platforms, including WordPress, SharePoint, Canva, Adobe InDesign, HubSpot and Constant Contact. They should also have experience developing and managing budgets.

**Out-of-town and overnight travel is required for up to 40 days per year.**

This position primarily reports out of our Washington, DC office located in Metro Center. AASHTO offers employees hybrid work schedules, with remote work up to 2-3 days/week.

The salary range for this position is $80,000 – $90,000.
