Position Information Working Title: Admissions Counselor Position Number: 000931 Location: Gage Undergraduate Admissions Center Employment Type: Permanent - Full-time (40 hrs/week) Salary: $47,707 - $48,823 Division: Academic Affairs Department: UNC Charlotte Primary Purpose of Position This role is responsible for the recruitment, counseling, and evaluation of prospective first‑year students. The employee acts as a primary representative for UNC Charlotte, facilitating the transition from high school to higher education by building relationships with students, their families, and school counselors. The focus is on helping applicants determine institutional fit and fostering a sense of belonging within the university community through targeted outreach and transition support. The employee manages the full enrollment cycle, from initial recruitment and event participation to the final admissions decision. Responsibilities include providing expert guidance on academic programs and university policies, conducting application reviews, and building an academically prepared incoming class. The position requires independent decision making and interaction with diverse student and family populations. Summary of Position Responsibilities Counsel and advise prospective first‑year and transfer students on admissions requirements, policies, and procedures in person, virtually, by phone, and email. Render admissions decisions on applications, applying appropriate criteria, and exercising discernment and good judgment. Plan recruitment events and conduct information sessions for prospective students. Travel extensively in North Carolina and occasionally out of state. Manage recruitment territory by conducting high school visits, attending college fairs, interacting with varying student and family populations, and developing relationships with high school counselors. Work non‑traditional hours as needed. Other Job Duties Assist with targeted recruitment activities. Assist with planning admissions events. Special Requirements Act as a bridge for Spanish‑speaking populations, ensuring that parents and students feel fully supported and informed throughout the enrollment lifecycle. High level of travel throughout the recruitment cycle. Undergo a Criminal Background Check and/or a Motor Vehicle Report. The Search Committee will not contact references without first verifying permission with the finalist. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in any field. At least two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Valid driver’s license. Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience Experience in program and project planning, including giving presentations to large groups. Strong attention to detail while analyzing data, and the ability to make independent decisions. Ability to maintain a high level of customer service. Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and representational communication skills; strong work ethic. Ability to travel in and out of state when needed.
