Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant - General Pediatrics

Brief Overview CHOP is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to work as a hospital provider on our General Pediatric unit at our King of Prussia Hospital. You will be the front‑line provider for patients with medical needs, performing assessments and creating plans of care, ordering medication and diagnostic studies, interpreting results, and updating patients and families accordingly. You will be the point person for all consult and interdisciplinary team member for our patients. In collaboration with an attending physician, you’ll work with a patient population that matches your delineation of privileges and skill set; collaborate with a range of healthcare professionals; and engage in professional development, education, and research. Responsibilities Assess the complex acute, critical, and chronically ill patient for urgent and emergent conditions. Use relevant data to evaluate for physiologic instability and formulate a plan of care. Perform therapeutic interventions to stabilize acute and critical health problems. Specific interventions are listed in the Scope of Practice Document and approved as part of the credentialing/privileging process. Analyze the indications, contraindications, risk of complications, and cost‑benefits of therapeutic interventions. Manage the plan of care through evaluation, modification, and documentation according to the patient’s response to therapy. Manage changes in condition with a focus on optimizing patient outcomes. Incorporate health promotion, health protection, and injury prevention measures into the plan of care within the context of complex acute, critical, and chronic illness. Facilitate the patient’s transitions between and within health care settings. Serve as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing staff, and provider team. Act as a consultant to multidisciplinary health‑care team members. Participate in scholarly activities including research and education. Maintain required competencies, identify learning needs, and seek appropriate educational offerings. Participate in the professional development of others and act as a preceptor and mentor to support the development of nurses, nurse practitioners, students, and other health‑care providers. Demonstrate a commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing practice to enhance safety. Share errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms and demonstrate shared accountability for safe practice. Perform off‑shift responsibilities that may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as determined by the clinical needs of the practice environment. Qualifications At least 1 year of experience practicing as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. Education Qualifications Master’s Degree in Nursing – Required. Bachelor’s Degree in Physician Assistant – Required. Skills and Abilities Ability to work in an inter‑professional team setting with multiple responsibilities. (Required proficiency) Access needed information effectively and efficiently. (Required proficiency) Evaluate information and its sources critically and appropriately incorporate it into clinical practice. (Required proficiency) Evaluate outcomes of the use of information. (Required proficiency) Information management literacy: Navigation of the electronic health record system. (Required proficiency) Ability to locate and review specific patient data in various clinical information systems. (Required proficiency) Effectively use clinical decision‑support tools. (Required proficiency) Understand policies and procedures, confidentiality, security, and privacy regulations regarding the use of clinical information systems. (Required proficiency) Ability to collect clinical data using quality improvement tools. (Required proficiency) Licenses and Certifications Prescriptive Authority – Pennsylvania State Licensing Board – Required within 3 months of hire. Specialty Certification – in area of education/subspecialty. Required certification must match scope of practice for that practice area. Required upon hire. Registered Nurse – Pennsylvania State Licensing Board – Required upon hire. Certified Physician Assistant (PA‑C) – Pennsylvania State Licensing Board – Required upon hire. Certified Physician Assistant (PA‑C) – National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants – Required upon hire. Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) – Pennsylvania State Licensing Board – Required upon hire.
