Oak Park and River Forest High School, or OPRF, is a comprehensive public high school located in Oak Park, IL, a suburb eight miles due west of downtown Chicago. We are a one-school district, with the majority of our students coming from two sender districts, River Forest Public Schools District 90 and Oak Park Elementary School District 97. We offer more than 200 courses, a variety of programs for students with special needs, 103 clubs and activities, and 34 competitive sports. Position Summary: Continuous surveillance of the campus safety camera system throughout the day to ensure safety of students, employees, visitors, and property, as well as maintenance of OPRFHS Behavior Education Plan and other applicable rules. Assist with supervision of students, school building, grounds and perimeter of school as needed perform other related duties as assigned. Certifications/Education: High School Diploma. Some college preferred. Law enforcement classes or training preferred. Some experience in IT preferred. Some experience in digital threat assessment preferred. Qualifications: Must be at least 21 years old. Experience with adolescents required; human services work experience desirable. Must successfully attend and complete mandatory training and professional development including Incident Command System 100 if designated to participate. Must maintain certification in CPI, CPR, First Aid/AED. Ability to work during the senior graduation ceremony. Must demonstrate the following: Ability to maintain composure in volatile situations. Ability to reduce the level or intensity of a difficult or dangerous situation. Mastery of interpersonal skills in communicating with students, faculty/staff, parents, & community members and law enforcement/fire/medical personnel. Ability to maintain a positive and cooperative working relationship with supervisor(s), administrators and any other contacts associated with the position. Must be in good physical condition; able to run, stand for long periods of time, and run up stairs quickly in responding to calls for assistance. After the job is offered, candidate must have physician's certification to physical ability to perform rigors of position before appointment receives final approval. Ability to work independently and to make quality judgments that meet the needs of the school community. Strong understanding of emergency procedures are essential with a solid working knowledge of current technology available to support the work. Culturally competent with the ability to establish and maintain good working relations with a diverse group of people. Ability to work overtime when necessary. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Monitor screens of the campus safety camera system for unauthorized persons, suspicious/criminal activity, disturbances, fights, and school rule violations. Keep records of and report unusual or concerning activity (to help identify cases of recidivism) to the Campus Safety Team, or to the Campus Safety Supervisor as appropriate. Assist in the investigation of incidents on school property using available technology. Assist the Behavioral Threat Assessment Team by completing digital threat assessment as needed. Serve as a regular member of the Behavioral Threat Assessment Team. Provide images of concerning activity at the request of administration. Answer emergency line calls and deploy campus safety/BRLs as necessary. Supervise interior and exterior of school, grounds, and in concert with other security personnel as assigned. Promote and maintain consistency among all security personnel in approaching individuals and in referring students to the appropriate Dean of Students for school rule infractions. Respond to requests for assistance whenever on duty. Refer all student misconduct and complaints made against non-students to the Campus Safety Supervisor. Prepare written incident reports or other reports as necessary. Using the designated patrol monitoring system when patrolling the campus. Experience in working with Raptor System. May be required to work extended hours as needs arise. Other duties as assigned. Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually high.
