Job Title: Composite Technician II Job Description

This role is a hands-on Composite Technician II position within a modern aerospace manufacturing facility, focused on composite plying, layup, fabrication, and assembly. You will work primarily with advanced composite materials to produce high-precision structures under the guidance of senior technicians, contributing directly to critical aerospace programs.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret detailed work instructions and work orders to understand job requirements and production steps.

• Prepare and maintain mold surfaces to ensure clean, accurate, and repeatable composite part production.

• Perform composite material kitting, including identifying, organizing, and staging materials needed for each job.

• Carry out lamination of pre-preg composite materials in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.

• Work with a variety of composite materials, including Kevlar, carbon fiber, and fiberglass, ensuring correct orientation and placement.

• Assemble molds and related tooling to produce conforming composite structures that meet engineering specifications.

• Perform vacuum bagging operations on small to medium composite structures, ensuring proper sealing and pressure distribution.

• Complete trimming operations using fixtures and various hand tools to achieve close tolerances and precise dimensions.

• Read and interpret basic engineering blueprints and drawings to understand part geometry, layup schedules, and tolerances.

• Use laser-guided ply placement systems to accurately position composite plies according to engineering requirements.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area to protect parts from foreign materials and support efficient workflow.

• Follow safety procedures and use equipment responsibly to protect yourself, your team, and the integrity of the machinery.

• Support quality control and inspection activities by providing accurate work, cooperating with inspections, and addressing any nonconformances.

• Collaborate with senior technicians and engineering staff to resolve issues, improve processes, and ensure parts meet aerospace standards.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with composite layup, plying, fabrication, and assembly in a manufacturing or similar environment.

• Ability to read and interpret work instructions, work orders, and basic engineering blueprints or drawings.

• Proficiency working with composite materials such as Kevlar, carbon fiber, and fiberglass.

• Experience performing lamination of pre-preg composite materials in accordance with process specifications.

• Skill in performing vacuum bagging operations on small to medium composite structures.

• Ability to complete precise trimming operations using fixtures and various hand tools while holding close tolerances.

• High attention to detail, including the ability to accurately place and orient multiple composite plies and quickly identify flaws in raw materials or layups.

• Strong hand dexterity and coordination, with comfort performing detailed finger movements and hand layup techniques.

• Organizational skills to track multiple parts and components throughout the production process.

• Commitment to cleanliness and contamination control to protect sensitive composite parts from foreign materials.

• Safety-minded approach, consistently prioritizing safe operation of machinery and equipment.

• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance as required by assigned programs.

• Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with inspection and quality control practices in a production setting.

• Experience in aerospace or a closely related industry working with composite structures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience supporting aerospace flight control components such as rudders, elevons, or similar structures.

• Background in working with laser-guided ply placement systems or other advanced layup technologies.

• Exposure to structured quality systems and documentation in a regulated manufacturing environment.

• Demonstrated ability to work under the guidance of senior technicians while contributing ideas for process improvements.

• Comfort working in a growing team environment with evolving processes and opportunities for cross-training.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large, newly built manufacturing facility that provides a clean, modern, and well-organized workspace. The environment supports advanced composite production, including laser-guided ply placement and vacuum bagging operations, with a strong emphasis on cleanliness to protect sensitive materials. The team is expanding, creating a dynamic atmosphere with opportunities to learn new processes and take on additional responsibilities. The position is on a day shift schedule, approximately 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., working around specialized composite manufacturing equipment and tools in a safety-focused setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $91520.00 - $95680.00/yr.
