Research Biomed Operations Coordinator

Reporting to the Director Research Biomed Operations Engineer, the Research Biomed Operations Coordinator will provide frontline operational support to the Children’s National Research Institute’s (CNRI) research faculty and staff. The role will serve as the primary service point of contact for CNRI faculty and staff for equipment, facility, and maintenance related issues while supporting the Research Center staff, Children’s National Hospital’s facility/engineering department, EVS, the Safety Office, and outside vendors. Key responsibilities include coordinating repairs and maintenance, managing moves and deliveries, performing facility inspections, delivering user training, and staffing special projects as assigned. Minimum Education Associate degree in Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering Technology, or equivalent civilian and/or military experience required. Bachelor’s degree in engineering, electronics, or applicable field; degree in bioengineering preferred. Minimum Work Experience 1‑2 years of applicable work or internship experience; a BS degree may be substituted for experience. Preference for biomedical equipment technicians with laboratory experience, including preventive maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment. Required Skills/Knowledge Knowledge of OSHA and laboratory safety regulations. Critical thinking, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to understand and apply technical vocabulary from verbal or written instructions. Strong organizational, multi‑tasking, self‑discipline, and autonomy in a high‑pressure environment. Functional Accountabilities Responsible Conduct of Research Consistently demonstrates adherence with the standards for responsible conduct of research. Facility Management Work with CNRI leadership to assist with assigning offices and laboratory space. Coordinate implementation with CNH Facility Engineering, EVS, IT, and Telecommunication. Identify and resolve facility deficiencies in collaboration with CNH staff. Ensure regulatory compliance and coordinate corrective actions. Follow up on contractor and staff corrective activities. Serve as CNRI liaison with environmental services, monitor cleanliness, and coordinate corrective action. Program Coordination Respond to support requests within established timelines. Utilize tools, support, resources, and escalation processes to resolve customer and system issues promptly. Interview customers to determine the nature and scope of service issues and initiate the appropriate response. Maintain accurate records of all work performed. Coordinate relocations and renovations as assigned and serve as the point of contact for contractors and staff. Effectively manage projects within established timelines. Oversee new equipment installation. Continuously develop technical competencies and demonstrate customer service policies and procedures. Equipment Maintenance Coordinate an annual space and equipment survey and maintain database accuracy throughout the year. Update CNRI freezer inventory and prepare reports as needed. Inform supervisor of equipment status changes in a timely manner. Schedule and perform preventive maintenance, performance assurance testing, electrical safety inspections, and coordinate repairs with vendors and CNH staff. Log all CNRI Administration‑generated work orders and service calls and monitor on‑time service delivery and quality. Coordinate regular scheduled building inspections with appropriate CNH staff. CNRI Common Facility Maintenance Order supplies as needed. Provide in‑service education to staff on facility and equipment operation and safety. Ensure equipment is operational and the facility is clean daily; identify and coordinate resolution of service or facility issues. Anticipate and respond to customer needs and follow up until needs are met. Teamwork & Communication Demonstrate collaborative and respectful behavior. Partner with all team members to achieve goals.
