At UDC, employees have the opportunity to contribute directly to programs that support national security, the U.S. warfighter, and our allied partners around the world. Position Overview UDC is seeking an experienced Director of Supply Chain to lead and optimize supply chain operations supporting our defense manufacturing and production programs, including munitions, weapon systems, and hazardous materials. Reporting directly to the CEO, this position will provide strategic and operational leadership across procurement, supplier management, materials planning, inventory management, logistics, transportation, and supply chain compliance. The Director will partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Program Management, Contracts, Finance, and executive leadership to ensure material availability, supplier performance, regulatory compliance, cost effectiveness, and on-time program execution. The successful candidate will bring significant defense-manufacturing supply chain experience, strong commercial and supplier-negotiation capabilities, and a demonstrated ability to build resilient supply chains in highly regulated environments. Key Responsibilities Supply Chain Strategy & Leadership Develop and execute the company’s overall supply chain strategy in alignment with business, operational, and program objectives. Lead and develop a high-performing supply chain organization, including talent development, performance management, succession planning, and organizational capability building. Establish supply chain policies, processes, controls, and best practices that support operational excellence and regulatory compliance. Partner with executive leadership to identify supply chain risks, opportunities, capacity constraints, and strategic sourcing priorities. Provide executive-level reporting regarding supply chain performance, risks, cost opportunities, and corrective actions. Drive technology adoption, process automation, and digital transformation to improve supply chain visibility, traceability, and efficiency. Supplier & Procurement Management Develop and execute procurement and sourcing strategies that ensure materials and components meet program specifications, quality standards, cost objectives, and delivery requirements. Partner closely with Operations and Program Management to prevent production interruptions resulting from material shortages, supplier performance issues, or noncompliance. Establish and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers and negotiate contracts, pricing, commercial terms, lead times, and service expectations. Identify, evaluate, qualify, and develop new suppliers in accordance with contractual, quality, regulatory, and business requirements. Proactively identify cost-reduction, sourcing, and supplier-consolidation opportunities. Lead supplier performance management, including scorecards, business reviews, audits, corrective actions, and supplier development initiatives. Provide cost and pricing support for proposal, capture, and business-development activities as required. Supply Chain Risk & Operational Performance Proactively identify, assess, and resolve supply chain disruptions that could affect production schedules or contractual program deliverables. Develop and implement risk-mitigation strategies, including dual sourcing, safety-stock strategies, inventory optimization, supplier contingency planning, and demand forecasting. Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Contracts, Finance, and Program Management to align supply chain plans with business requirements. Establish and monitor key supply chain performance indicators, including supplier on-time delivery, material availability, inventory performance, lead times, supplier quality, cost savings, and other relevant measures. Lead continuous-improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce costs, improve working capital, and strengthen overall supply chain resilience. DoD Transportation, Packaging & Marking Compliance Ensure domestic and international shipments via air, land, and sea comply with applicable U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), MIL-STD, DOT, UN, IATA, and IMDG transportation, packaging, marking, and documentation requirements. Ensure HAZMAT and other regulated shipments comply with applicable Defense Transportation Regulations (DTR), Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and other regulatory requirements. Establish best practices for transportation routing, export/import documentation, packaging, marking, and shipment compliance. Partner with internal and external stakeholders to maintain safe, compliant, and efficient movement of materials and finished products. Regulatory & Government Compliance Ensure suppliers and supply chain activities, including procurement, storage, inventory management, material handling, and transportation—comply with applicable DFARS, ITAR, EAR, FAR, BATF and other contractual or regulatory requirements. Partner with Legal, Contracts, Quality, Security, and Compliance teams to address regulatory obligations, supplier certifications, flow-down requirements, and contractual commitments. Maintain accurate supply chain documentation and records required for internal audits, customer reviews, government reporting, and regulatory inspections. Represent the supply chain organization during DCMA/DCAA audits, customer reviews, and other government or regulatory assessments. Develop and maintain compliance processes designed to ensure ongoing audit and inspection readiness. Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations, or a related discipline. 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in supply chain management, procurement, sourcing, materials management, or logistics. Demonstrated leadership experience within the defense, aerospace, munitions, or another highly regulated manufacturing environment. Strong working knowledge of FAR, DFARS, ITAR, EAR, and applicable defense procurement requirements.
