Summary

The Counselor provides direct therapeutic services to individuals and families affected by substance use disorders. This role is responsible for conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, facilitating individual and group counseling sessions, and supporting patients in their recovery journey. The Counselor works as part of an interdisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based care, ensure continuity of services, and maintain compliance with regulatory and ethical standards.  This is a part-time day position requiring availability to work Saturday and Sunday.

Job Responsibilities

• Conduct intake assessments, biopsychosocial evaluations, and substance use screenings.
• Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized treatment plans in collaboration with patients and clinical teams.
• Facilitate individual, group, and family counseling sessions using evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
• Provide crisis intervention, relapse prevention strategies, and recovery support.
• Educate patients and families on addiction, coping strategies, and available community resources.
• Document all clinical services in electronic health records (EHR) accurately and in compliance with regulations.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, case managers, and other treatment providers to ensure integrated care.
• Participate in treatment team meetings, case reviews, and discharge planning.
• Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality in line with HIPAA and ethical guidelines.
• Stay current with continuing education, licensure requirements, and best practices in addiction counseling.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field required; master’s degree preferred.
• Licensed or certified in addiction counseling or related field (e.g., LADC, CADC, LPC, LCSW) as required by state regulations.
• Minimum 1–2 years of counseling experience in addiction treatment or behavioral health preferred.
• Knowledge of evidence-based practices for substance use disorders, co-occurring conditions, and trauma-informed care.
• Strong counseling and clinical skills, with ability to engage patients in therapeutic relationships.
• Knowledge of addiction treatment models, recovery-oriented systems of care, and community resources.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for patient interactions and documentation.
• Ability to manage crisis situations with calmness and professionalism.
• Cultural competence and sensitivity in working with diverse populations.
• Strong organizational and time management skills to manage caseload and documentation requirements.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, ethical standards, and clinical regulations.

  Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
• Frequent operation of a computer, telephone, and other standard office equipment.
• Ability to move about the office and occasionally to other locations for meetings, trainings, or outreach.
• Communicate effectively in person, virtually, and by phone, including the ability to convey information and respond to questions.
• Occasionally lift and carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds.
• Work is generally performed in an office or counseling environment.
• Periodic exposure to emotional situations or crisis intervention scenarios.
• Frequent contact with clients, staff, and external partners.
• Standard office hours with occasional evening or weekend work as required.
• The noise level in the work environment is usally moderate
