Description:
Reviews patient prescriptions to ascertain the type of treatment required, location of affected areas, and history of previous radiation treatment.
Safely positions patients utilizing immobilization devices.
Utilizes appropriate treatment accessories as prescribed by the physician.
Operates treatment machine precisely.
Administers ionizing radiation as prescribed per physician.
Verifies radiation prescription prior to treatment and confirms total radiation dose following treatment in patient charts.
Documents treatment in inpatient charts.
Localizes patient markings daily.
Completes ongoing imaging of patients per departmental policy.
Assists patients in coordinating appointment times for daily treatments, accommodating patient transportation, and other appointments.
Refers patients for counseling, transportation, and medical equipment needs, as appropriate.
Refers patients to a nurse or physician for conditions requiring evaluation, as appropriate.
Assumes the duties of simulation.
Rotates through treatment areas as assigned.
Responsible for cleaning therapy rooms and work areas; maintains linen and medical supplies for treatment rooms.
Adheres to the quality assurance policies of the department.
Teaches radiation therapy students as defined by their educational requirements.
Performs all other duties as assigned or requested.
Working Conditions:
Normal office environment with minimal exposure to noise, dust, or extreme temperatures.
Lifting of patients, moving and pushing wheelchairs/stretchers, and lifting equipment above head up to 50 lbs.
Potential exposure to radiation; adherence to safety procedures minimizes the likelihood of danger.
Frequent interaction with emotionally depressed and terminally/critically ill patients.
