Job Title: CNC Machine Operator Job Description

This role operates and adjusts CNC mills and lathes to perform a variety of standard and repetitive machining operations on metal parts. You will work with proven programs and setups created by others, focusing on accurate machine operation, basic adjustments, and quality inspection using precision measuring tools. The position involves working in a high-volume manufacturing environment with opportunities to learn new departments and grow into advanced machining roles.

Responsibilities

• Operate and adjust CNC mills and CNC lathes (including Haas equipment) to perform drilling, reaming, tapping, milling, turning, boring, and other machining operations on a wide range of surfaces, diameters, and depths.

• Run standard and repetitive machining sequences using programs and setups that are created and proven by others, ensuring consistent and accurate production.

• Monitor machine operations and make basic adjustments as needed to maintain quality, accuracy, and production efficiency.

• Inspect products using various gauges such as micrometers, bore gauges, thread gauges, and calipers to verify that parts meet specifications.

• Perform in-process and final quality checks on parts, documenting results as required and communicating any nonconformances to the appropriate personnel.

• Enter, read, and interpret input and output numbers on a computer to track production, verify measurements, and support quality documentation.

• Handle and lift metal parts, including lifting up to 5 pounds into and off of the machine on a regular basis.

• Follow established work instructions, safety procedures, and quality standards for all machining operations.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area, including basic housekeeping around machines and workstations.

• Collaborate with team members, leads, and supervisors to meet production goals and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of machining experience in a manufacturing setting (such as brake press, laser, punch press, turret, CNC, or similar equipment).

• At least 1 year of experience using micrometers and calipers to perform quality inspections on parts.

• Minimum of 6 months of machine operating experience, preferably on CNC equipment.

• Ability to operate CNC mills and CNC lathes safely and effectively.

• Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and thread gauges for dimensional inspection.

• Ability to read and enter numerical data into a computer accurately.

• Comfort working with standard machining operations such as drilling, reaming, tapping, milling, turning, and boring.

• Ability to lift and handle metal parts up to 5 pounds repeatedly.

• Willingness to work in a loud and dirty manufacturing environment.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience operating Haas CNC machines or similar equipment.

• Background in CNC machining environments, including exposure to CNC mills and CNC lathes.

• Familiarity with quality inspection processes in a production setting.

• Comfort working with various types of production machinery in a large manufacturing facility.

• Willingness to learn new departments and cross-train on different machines and processes.

• Ability to work extended hours and overtime when needed, including weekends on a rotational basis.

Work Environment

This position is based in a very large manufacturing facility of approximately 400,000 square feet with around 700 employees. The environment is loud and dirty, typical of heavy industrial production, and requires comfort working around machinery and noise. The primary schedule for the second shift runs from 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday. Every three weeks, work on Friday and Saturday is required, while on the other weeks, additional days are voluntary. Overtime is available and can extend total hours up to 60 per week, subject to advance approval. The facility operates multiple shifts, with shift premiums provided for second and third shifts. Dress code requires steel-toe footwear, jeans, and a t-shirt without rips or holes, suitable for a manufacturing environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.50/hr.
