Senior Workplace Safety & Health Specialist

Department: 10675 Enterprise Corporate - People & Culture Teammate Safety Status: Full time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hours Per Week: 40 Schedule: Hybrid position, ability to travel up to 50% in your geographic area. Coverage: Wake / North Charlotte Market. Pay Range: $44.15 - $66.25 Serves as technical resource in the evaluation, planning, and implementation of Enterprise-wide teammate health and safety processes and practices by coordinating all elements of the teammate safety program at assigned facilities. Responsible for the oversight of project implementations geared towards the continuous improvement of workers compensation losses and workforce safety. Supports the redesign of workflows that impact high reliability, teammate safety and regulatory compliance. Works closely with executive leadership teams, directors, managers as well as the frontline teammates to reduce workplace hazards and mitigate risk. Collaborates with other key stakeholders to promote zero harm fundamentals across the enterprise. Serves as a change agent, driving performance improvement in teammate injury prevention across assigned locations in the Wake and Charlotte, NC region. Major Responsibilities Assists with the development, documentation, and program direction for supporting functions within Teammate Health and Safety. Coordinates development of standardized program tools and implements effective risk assessment and hazard analysis programs to mitigate risks to the organization. Assists with the development of health and safety policies and procedures at the corporate, facility and department level. Develops and tracks implementation of injury prevention countermeasures. Develops and maintains strong working relationships within the Advocate Health Enterprise and with professional organizations and other healthcare organizations, municipal services, and regulatory authorities. Serves as a reporting member of facility-level safety-related committees as assigned. Implements and oversees special projects. Develops and delivers health and safety presentations. Delivers professional high-quality business quality consultancy across the depth of our operational processes. Investigates injuries and near miss occurrences to determine if current policy or procedures require changes. Works in conjunction with department leaders to complete thorough investigations of safety events, analysis of potential hazards and development of methods to reduce losses. Coordinates to ensure root cause analysis of identified critical incidents. Communicates and presents regularly to site executive teams on the occurrence of serious safety events, and status of the site safety program/s. Assists leader in driving the implementation of program improvements, pillar initiatives and provides support for ongoing maintenance and sustainability of the program across the organization. Research best practice/processes/policies, and procedures to effectively manage cross-functional successful programs; provides support in quality and opportunity improvements as well as operational support on select initiatives. Defines key performance indicators and metrics of success; monitors metrics and reporting to document program and project health and communicate status to the leader. Reviews safety events entered daily into the reporting system, reviews safety data on a regular basis to identify strengths, opportunities for improvement, trends, and actionable items. Assists sites, departments, and individuals in the identification of information, data requirements, and modifications needed to support program activities. Identifies and communicates educational needs or deficiencies to ensure program compliance and operational efficiencies. Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required None Required. Education Required Bachelor's Degree or equivalent knowledge in Occupational Health and Safety, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Technology or a health-related field. Experience Required Typically requires 5 years' experience in related discipline. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Advanced knowledge of state and federal regulations, handicapped discrimination laws, and hospital/clinic accreditation agency requirements in the states we operate. Advanced knowledge of current occupational health and safety best practices. Advanced knowledge of development and trends in occupational health and safety practices. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with all levels of employees, management, executives, and other organizations and to address difficult and controversial issues. Ability to work and function in a complex corporate environment. Ability to build teamwork and trust in teammate safety programs. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite or similar applications. Awareness of key topics in the field of workforce health and safety. Demonstrated ability to problem solve and analyze process changes. Demonstrates self-direction, results- oriented and creative approach to organizational change. Must be able to extrapolate key themes (tell the story) within data. Demonstrated ability to successfully work independently and collaboratively. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of stakeholders and present professionally in front of (and to) various audiences. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make recommendations to drive enhancements and process improvements. Strong attention to detail, accuracy and quality principles. Ability to handle highly sensitive, confidential information in a respectful manner. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Works in an office and hospital environment sitting, standing, and walking. Works with standard office equipment. Position requires travel which may result in exposure to road and weather hazards. May spend time in a healthcare facility or support services setting. Must be able to carry up to 15 pounds. Ability to climb ladders and stairs. Responsible for working in a safe manner. Preferred Job Requirements Preferred Education Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Technology or a health-related field preferred. Advance training in teammate safety or equivalent preferred. Preferred Certification or License Professional licensure or certification (i.e. PE, AIA), CSP or CIH preferred. Preferred Experience 3 years of experience in healthcare-related field and experience in employee or occupational health and safety preferred. Comfortable speaking to both large and small groups.
