Coordinator of School Transportation Services (NBOE) – Position Type: Non Instructional. Location: Pupil Transportation – 407. Position Overview The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the Coordinator of School Transportation Services within the Office of Pupil Transportation. Under direction, plans, organizes, directs and coordinates school transportation programs, services, operations and staff; performs other related duties as required. Qualifications and Requirements Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education: 30 semester‑hour credits = 1 year of relevant experience. Seven years of professional experience involving the organization, planning, direction and scheduling of mass passenger transportation services, including 3 years in a supervisory capacity. Or possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university plus 3 years of relevant supervisory experience. "Professional experience" requires creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive work with the authority to act independently and make informed decisions. License requirements: May need a School Transportation Supervisor Certificate from Rutgers University Center for Government Services and a valid New Jersey driver’s license if vehicle operation is essential. Basic Functions and Responsibilities Directs and coordinates the operation, maintenance, scheduling and reporting of a fleet of school buses. Supervises expenditures in budget categories affecting bus transportation in accordance with regulations. Plans and supervises bus routes. Adjusts schedules and student bus assignments when necessary. Plans, organizes and conducts driver training and refresher courses in safety. Prepares cost estimates and budget recommendations. Maintains communication among all personnel involved in pupil transportation. Instructs and assigns staff involved in student transportation. Recruits, selects and recommends drivers and other transportation personnel. Prepares and compiles detailed transportation reports for submission to management. Investigates bus accidents and recommends disciplinary action when appropriate. Oversees registration process for bus licensure. Maintains a central record of vehicular unit usage and running costs. Visually inspects buses for needed repairs and ensures safety and sanitary conditions meet standards. Supervises preparation and maintenance of complex correspondence, records, and files. Supervises work operations and recommends hiring, firing, promotion, demotion and disciplinary actions. Will learn to utilize electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency. Performs other duties assigned by supervisor. Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of state and local laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures for public bus operation. Knowledge of bus inspection methods and operation and maintenance procedures. Knowledge of violations commonly found in school bus operations. Knowledge of safety precautions for working with children, including those with disabilities. Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques. Knowledge of dispatching several vehicles from a central pool. Ability to give assignments and supervise subordinates. Ability to direct operation of a fleet of school buses. Ability to recommend replacement of vehicles. Ability to collaborate with superiors, associates, employees and stakeholders. Ability to conduct impartial investigations of accidents and recommend disciplinary actions. Ability to develop and conduct detailed studies, reports and surveys of bus operation phases. Ability to supervise preparation and maintenance of essential records. Ability to learn electronic and/or manual recording systems. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English; ASL or Braille may also be acceptable. Salary, Employment Period and Union Affiliation Salary: $85,945 – $104,209. Employment Period: Twelve (12) months. Union Affiliation: Local 32.
